"As parts of my childhood memories returned, I tried to make sense of it all. There were many pieces of the puzzle that started to come together as I retraced my steps. It started to make sense why I experienced high levels of anxiety, panic attacks, felt unsafe, and wanted to lock my bedroom door at night." Abused as a child, Marisa Russo feared commitment and fell into a lifestyle of poor choices and negativity. Finally able to reclaim her true identity in her forties, she made it her life's work to help others in the same predicament. Having founded Forensic Healing, Marisa's investigative style first attracted praise in her book Women Breaking Free. In this new offering, Freeing The Unlo...

When the Fairytale Ends

When you think about abuse, do you think of someone being slapped? Or punched? I did too until I found myself in a toxic marriage in which I was emotionally, verbally, mentally, and financially abused. I did not even know I was being abused until I was taken out of the situation and started seeing a therapist. This is my story of how the abuse changed my life, of how I had to fight to rebuild my life. I want to educate others to know that abuse is not just physical""to know that you can be "beaten down" with words, with threats. You are not alone, and there is hope for a new beginning. I hope to inspire other women. I look back at my journey and know that God was with me the entire time. I wanted to give up, to not go on anymore, but God gave me a purpose, and it was through that pain that I reached my purpose""to be a light in someone else's pain.

A Companion to Religious Minorities in Early Modern Rome investigates the lives and stories of the many groups and individuals in Rome, between 1500 and approximately 1750, who were not Roman (Latin) Catholic. It shows how early modern Catholic people and institutions in Rome were directly influenced by their interactions with other religious traditions. This collection reveals the significant impact of Protestants, Muslims, Jews, and Eastern Rite Christians; the influence of the many transient groups and individual travelers who passed through the city; the unique contributions of converts to Catholicism, who drew on the religion of their birth; and the importance of intermediaries, fluent in more than one culture and religion. Contributors include: Olivia Adankpo-Labadie, Robert John Clines, Matthew Coneys Wainwright, Serena Di Nepi, Irene Fosi, Mayu Fujikawa, Sam Kennerley, Emily Michelson, James Nelson Novoa, Cesare Santus, Piet van Boxel, and Justine A. Walden.

The year 1543 marked the beginning of a new global consciousness in Japan with the arrival of shipwrecked Portuguese merchants on Tanegashima Island in southern Japan. Other Portuguese soon followed and Japan became aware of a world beyond India. After the merchants came the first missionary Francis Xavier in 1549, beginning the Christian century in Japan. This is not a new story, but it is the first time that Japanese, Portuguese and other European accounts have been brought together and presented in English. Their arrival was recorded by the Japanese in Tanegashima kafu, the Teppoki and the Kunitomo teppoki, here translated and presented together with European reports. Includes maps, and Portuguese and Japanese illustrations.
