The Texas Connected Freight Corridors (TCFC) system is a connected vehicle (CV) environment that seeks to improve safety and mobility for the Texas Triangle, which consists of the Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Laredo metropolitan regions. The TCFC project is a baseline effort to develop and deliver six initial applications for use by vehicle fleets. The applications selected for deployment include advanced travel information systems, queue warning, work zone warning, wrong-way driving, road weather warning, and freight signal priority. This project expands the initial TCFC system by considering additional CV applications for inclusion and consideration. Project activities included reviewing existing CV efforts and pursuits, surveying key private stakeholders operating within the TCFC system, assessing the effectiveness and financial feasibility, and outlining the next steps for procurement and implementation.

Economic activity in most cities relies heavily on the movement of goods via freight vehicles. The freight transportation system has a direct impact on the livelihood and success of urban areas; however, the presence of trucks on the freeway system further increases congestion as the trucks interact with passenger vehicles. Trucks take up a large portion of roadway space, and the places that rely on freight the most are typically those where there is a high concentration of people and activities. As a result, traffic congestion increases while the safety of the roadway diminishes. This project examined multiple freight management strategies that are applicable for the largest urban areas in ...

"As directed in 2015 by the 84th Texas Legislature, researchers compared highway noise guidelines in Texas with those in five other states and interviewed officials representing several toll road authorities in Texas. They also measured sound levels behind noise barriers along three toll road sections in Harris County, Dallas County, and Williamson County to compare those measures with predicted levels after noise wall construction."--

Sustainable Rice Straw Management

This open access book on straw management aims to provide a wide array of options for rice straw management that are potentially more sustainable, environmental, and profitable compared to current practice. The book is authored by expert researchers, engineers and innovators working on a range of straw management options with case studies from Vietnam, the Philippines and Cambodia. The book is written for engineers and researchers in order to provide them information on current good practice and the gaps and constraints that require further research and innovation. The book is also aimed at extension workers and farmers to help them decide on the best alternative straw management options in their area by presenting both the technological options as well as the value chains and business models required to make them work. The book will also be useful for policy makers, required by public opinion to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, looking for research-based evidence to guide the policies they develop and implement.
