Dengan hadirnya internet dan penggunaan teknologi komunikasi dan informatika, membuat adanya masyarakat digital, seperti yang diungkapkan McLuhan bahwa perkembangan teknologi mem-pengaruhi hidup masyarakat di suatu ruang bersama yang disebut sebagai desa global (global village). Masyarakat sosial berubah menjadi masyarakat digital dengan adanya dukungan teknologi informasi. Perubahan ini disebabkan dengan transisi dari masyarakat industri lama (old industrial society) menjadi global network society yang melibatkan aktivitas digital. TIK telah berkembang sejak tahun 1990an, terutama perkembangan teknologi informasi yang dapat menghubungkan dari seluruh pelosok dunia tanpa batasan ruang dan waktu (Kristiyono & Ida, 2019).
