As principais metas dos áulicos foram a defesa contra os ataques perpetrados pela oposição e a afirmação de seus postulados políticos, que tinham como ideias basilares a manutenção da ordem pública, a presença de uma monarquia constitucional com forte poder centralizador e a defesa da soberania legítima de D. Pedro I, que convivia com outros poderes constitucionais, entretanto estava acima deles. Por sua originalidade e proposta desafiadora, Luzes da Independência se torna uma excelente fonte de estudos sobre a história política no Primeiro Reinado, além de apontar como essas ideias e contradições continuavam a reverberar na política do Brasil.
