Need a much more compelling as it is becoming more virtual space in which they act and live our kids (not just their ... alas), a company reaching out to the image flowing, uncontrolled sedimentation of the moments that we are not aware of living, a company that pays little attention to children as children, but as recipients of consumer goods whose advertising bombards their mothers.

Peace From Broken Pieces

How do you find your way through the broken pieces and the pain to peace? In this honest and searching book, New York Times best-selling author Iyanla Vanzant recounts the last decade of her profoundly human journey and shares her own hard lessons to inspire you to put your personal puzzle back together. Part metaphorical teaching story, part wrenching personal chronicle, this phoenix-rising-from-the-ashes tale is about men and money, love and work, mothers and daughters, life and death, and the patterns and pathologies that families pass down through the generations—until someone gets clear enough to break the pattern and pave the way to healing. Discover why everything you need to learn is reflected in your relationships; gain a new perspective on personal power, spiritual purpose, and karma; and recognize that it is possible to make your broken pieces whole.

Everyone's History

The book’s structure blends history and geography. A good world atlas or a world historical atlas will be helpful in the reading. The historical arrangement of contents has six Parts” Classical, Mediaeval, Early Modern (Lands), Early Modern (Ideas), Late Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries, Twentieth Century. Although this sequence of periods and categories fits Western/European history best, it is also reasonably appropriate for Central Asia, India, and China. For other regions it is more arbitrary, and Classical and Mediaeval periods are merged. Because the Parts overlap and involve imprecise categories, in the List of Contents and Summaries no attempt is made to give dates for their beginning and end.

Framed by an overview of theories that guide student affairs practice, the cases in this book present a challenging array of problems that student affairs and higher education personnel face, such as racial diversity, alcohol abuse, and student activism. The revised edition has thirty new cases, with content on issues that reflect the complexity of today’s environment at colleges and universities, including the expanded use of social networking, the rise in mental health issues, bullying, study abroad, and athletics. The fully updated edition includes new references, expanded theory with an increased emphasis on race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation, and three entirely new chapters on ad...

The Ethics of Today's Science and Technology

Beneath the discussion and clarification of problems, of which both sides agreed to have them in common and which are documented in this volume, one of the important insights on both sides had been disagreements depending on a different way in seeing, articulating and reflecting on these problems. So, the English term 'science', in differing from the German 'Wissenschaft' (which includes not only sciences of nature, but also humanities), is meant in the Western tradition as the 'uninterested' research for truth, especially for most general laws; but the Chinese understanding seems to be characterized by an immediate connection of science and its practical use.

Astrologia Taoista

Modelling Extremal Events

"A reader's first impression on leafing through this book is of the large number of graphs and diagrams, used to illustrate shapes of distributions...and to show real data examples in various ways. A closer reading reveals a nice mix of theory and applications, with the copious graphical illustrations alluded to. Such a mixture is of course dear to the heart of the applied probabilist/statistician, and should impress even the most ardent theorists." --MATHEMATICAL REVIEWS

Executive Compensation: Empirical Essays on the Antecedents and the Consequences, and the Role of Executive Personality

Top managers have a significant impact on organizations because they are responsible for the formulation and implementation of corporate strategies, have the visibility and influence to shape the opinions of internal and external stakeholders, and coin the culture of their organizations, affecting employees at every level of the organization. Research has focused on the drivers and consequences of top managers' actions, with a particular focus on executive compensation, but important questions remain unanswered. This dissertation contributes to the literature on top executives by examining the antecedents of executive compensation, the influence of executive compensation on executive behavio...
