However, their development and utilisation have received much less attention than exotic genetic resources, yet indigenous livestock are more adapted to the production environment in the country and, consequently, are more productive.This book highlights the issues and the leading role that indigenous breeds can play in increasing the performance and productivity in the livestock sector, and in enhancing household and national food and nutritional security.We hope the book will be of use to students, academics, practitioners, policy makers, development partners and other stakeholders interested in livestock development in Zimbabwe.
Exploring strategic priorities for regional agricultural research and development investments in southern Africa
An in-depth quantitative analysis is undertaken in this paper to assist the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat, member countries, and development partners in setting future regional investment priorities for agricultural research and development in the SADC region. A primary goal of this work was to identify a range of agricultural research priorities for achieving sector productivity and overall economic growth in southern Africa, at both the country and regional levels. This is accomplished by adopting an integrated modeling framework that combines a disaggregated spatial analytical model with an economywide multimarket model developed specifically for the region.

Reconfigured Agrarian Relations in Zimbabwe
Radical land reform programmes generate changes in agrarian structures and capital accumulation trajectories in the countryside. This book examines how capital accumulation is being reshaped by changing financing and marketing of agricultural commodities and presents an emerging Quadi-PMMR-model agrarian structure composed of the poor, middle, middle-to-rich peasants and some rich capitalists with a growing middle scale farmer base constituting two thirds of the rural population in Zimbabwe.
