Made to Live depicts a physician’s journey to save lives. Dr. Paul Saba begins his story with the battle to save the life of his baby girl, Jessica, who was born with a severe congenital cardiac malformation. He describes the challenges of facing difficult diagnoses through both his personal experiences and those of his patients. This book debunks the myths of euthanasia and assisted suicide. Dr. Saba’s battle has taken him to the Canadian courts, where he has been silenced from challenging Canada’s euthanasia laws. He has been forbidden from utilizing the Canadian Constitution or presenting his arguments in court to oppose euthanasia and assisted suicide. Dr. Saba believes no one can know what the future holds. This volume contains both invited lectures and contributed talks presented at the meeting on Total Positivity and its Applications held at the guest house of the University of Zaragoza in Jaca, Spain, during the week of September 26-30, 1994. There were present at the meeting almost fifty researchers from fourteen countries. The Association Internationale de Recherche sur la Circulation Osseuse, A.R.C.O., was founded in London in December 1989 by a small group of doctors, surgeons and researchers in basic sciences who had been involved for many years in the study of bone circulation and its disorders. They had met several times in Toulouse, during the International Symposia on Bone Circulation held there since 1973 and they wished to carry their contacts further. In founding A.R.C.O., they established as their primary aims the encouragement and furtherance of research, organisation of meetings and promotion of knowledge on the subject. At the present time, the Association has over a hundred members from more than bone tissue twenty countries in Europe, America and Asia. All have the conviction that and its pathology can only be truly known and studied if one has an understanding of its vascular system and the way its circulation functions. This concept, apparently beyond question, has not yet been adopted by all physicians and scientists who are interested in bone. From time to time, one comes across teaching programmes on bone patho logy which make no mention of bone circulation.

Counting is one of the basic elementary mathematical activities. It comes with two complementary aspects: to determine the number of elements of a set - and to create an ordering between the objects of counting just by counting them over. For finite sets of objects these two aspects are realized by the same type of num bers: the natural numbers.
