Fundamentals of mold growth in indoor environments and strategies for healthy living
Today, indoor mold and moisture, and their associated health effects, are a society-wide problem. The economic consequences of indoor mold and moisture are enormous. Their global dimension has been emphasized in several recent international publications, stressing that the most important means for avoiding adverse health effects is the prevention (or minimization) of persistent dampness and microbial growth on interior surfaces and in building structures. This book aims to describe the fundamentals of indoor mold growth as a prerequisite to tackle mold growth in the existing building stock as well as in future energy efficient buildings. It brings together different disciplinary points of view on indoor mold, ranging from physics and material science to microbiology and health sciences. The contents have been outlined according to three main issues: Fundamentals, particularly addressing the crucial roles of water and materials, Health, including a state-of-the-art description of the health-related effects of indoor molds, and Strategies, integrating remediation, prevention and policies.

The open access book discusses human health and wellbeing within the context of built environments. It provides a comprehensive overview of relevant sources of literature and user complaints that clearly demonstrate the consequences of lack of attention to health in current building design and planning. Current designing of energy-efficient buildings is mainly focused on looking at energy problems and not on addressing health. Therefore, even green buildings that place environmental aspects above health issues can be uncomfortable and unhealthy, and can lead to public health problems. The authors identify many health risk factors and their parameters, and the interactions among risk factors and building design elements. Předkládaná metodika je zaměřena na systémovou aktivní péči o stromy jako živé symboly národní a kulturní identity. Cílem metodiky je vést uživatele k co nejširšímu pojetí pěstební péče o významné stromy jako systematického procesu po celé období jejich vývoje. Uživateli se nabízí metodický postup ke stanovení potenciálu stromu, možnosti naplnění požadované funkce, perspektivy, výběru a aplikace vhodných pěstebních zásahů, způsob následné kontroly, evidence a dalších systémových opatření. Součástí péče o významný strom je i analýza jeho dosavadního vývoje, působení stresorů, se kterými se potýkal, nebo i pěstebních opatření, jež na něm byla v minulosti provedena a vyhodnocení růstových reakcí stromu na ně.

Identifikace a hodnocení významných stromů
Předkládaná metodika je zaměřena na stromy jako živé symboly národní a kulturní identity, a může být velmi užitečným nástrojem zejména v oblasti památkové péče. Zároveň však může sloužit i v celé paletě komplexního systému ochrany stromů, ať už na úrovni výkonu státní správy (např. posuzování stromů se zvláštní ochranou, při výkonu péče v samosprávě, ve správních řízeních, apod.), nebo místních samosprávních celků. Jednotlivé významné stromy či jejich skupiny lze hodnotit podle této metodiky systémově ve velmi širokém záběru, nebo lze vybrat jen určitý segment metodiky a použít jej pro specifickou výseč hodnocení, kde jiné metodické přístupy pro identifikaci a hodnocení stromů jsou buď nevyhovující, nebo dokonce zcela chybí. Hlavním cílem předkládané metodiky je vytvořit metodologický nástroj pro trvalé zachování významných stromů jako součásti kulturního dědictví národa a živých symbolů krajiny našeho domova.
