Aerodynamics
This textbook highlights the fundamentals of aerodynamics and the applications in aeronautics. The textbook is divided into two parts: basic aerodynamics and applied aerodynamics. The first part focuses on the basic principles and methods of aerodynamics. The second part covers the aerodynamic characteristics of aircraft in low speed, subsonic, transonic and supersonic flows. The combination of the two parts aims to cultivate students' aerospace awareness, build the ability to raise and solve problems and the ability to make comprehensive use of the knowledge to carry out innovative practice. This book is intended for undergraduates majoring in aircraft design and engineering, engineering mechanics, flight mechanics, missile design, etc. It can also be used as a reference for postgraduates, researchers and engineers of aerospace related majors.
Immune-Mediated Lung Injury
A possible association between interstitial lung diseases and autoimmunity was first reported almost 40 years ago. Despite further reports linking immune deregulation and chronic lung injury, the role of autoimmunity had been severely underscored in the past mainly due to the disappointing results of immunosuppressive and immunomodulatory agents such as corticosteroids in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Most recently, the interest has been revived. Clinical observations fueled mechanistic discoveries on the role of immunity in lung injury and the identification of autoimmune phenomena as part of the fibrotic process. With this Research Topic, we, therefore, aim to improve knowledge for the association of immunity and interstitial lung diseases.

Vaccines, Immunotherapy and New Antifungal Therapy Against Fungi: Updates in the New Frontier
Invasive fungal diseases have increased many fold over the past 50 years. Current treatment regimens typically require prolonged administration of antifungal medications that can have significant toxicity. Moreover, our present potent antifungal armamentarium fails to eradicate fungal pathogens from certain compromised hosts. Additionally, invasive fungal diseases continue to have unacceptably high mortality rates. A growing body of work has focused on the utility of vaccines and/or immunotherapy as a powerful tool in combating mycoses, either for the active treatment, as an adjuvant, or in the prevention of specific fungal pathogens. Also, it is growing the interest over new drugs development as second choice for treatment when traditional chemotherapy fail. This Research Topic will detail the exciting progress in developing vaccines, immunotherapy and new drugs for fungi.
Cardiovascular Disease and Diabetes: A Journey from Bench to Bedside
People with diabetes mellitus have a higher-than-average risk of having a heart attack or stroke. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the relationship between diabetes and cardiovascular disorders are not fully understood; therefore, successful attempts at designing rational interventions remain limited. Nonetheless, recent advances have opened numerous areas of investigation exploring this rapidly evolving research field, also showing the other side of the coin, i.e., how cardiovascular disease can affect insulin release and glucose homeostasis. The present eBook aims to present some of the more relevant and recent acquisitions on the molecular mechanisms linking diabetes and cardiovascular disease, maintaining a focus on the actual translatability in clinical practice.
