80 ANS D'Edition Savante A L'Universite D'Ottawa - 80 Years of Scholarly Publishing at the University of Ottawa Press

The history of the University of Ottawa Press serves as a mirror of the intellectual history of our country. This bilingual, illustrated book, follows the evolution of this scholarly publishing house, from its French-Canadian and Oblate origins to its contemporary mission. The University of Ottawa Press (UOP) is North America's only fully bilingual university press and oldest French-language university press. Founded in 1936 by philosophy and theology professors, UOP has been enriching the intellectual and cultural life and contributing to the advancement of the social sciences and humanities for 80 years. This highly illustrated book will include an historical timeline, archival photos, manuscript pages and correspondence, biographical information on UOP's key authors, as well as accounts and anecdotes that, as a whole, document the fascinating tale of the UOP's evolution. This book will also include a piece by Michel Bock and Danika Gourgon, who set the history and the contribution of the Press against the backdrop of a broader Canadian intellectual context.

Charting the Future of Translation History

Over the last 30 years there has been a substantial increase in the study of the history of translation. Both well-known and lesser-known specialists in translation studies have worked tirelessly to give the history of translation its rightful place. Clearly, progress has been made, and the history of translation has become a viable independent research area. This book aims at claiming such autonomy for the field with a renewed vigour. It seeks to explore issues related to methodology as well as a variety of discourses on history with a view to laying the groundwork for new avenues, new models, new methods. It aspires to challenge existing theoretical and ideological frameworks. It looks tow...

Bringing History to Life

History has never been as present in our daily lives as it is today. Through any number of media outlets, tens of millions of people are in daily contact with historical discourses and practices. Between games, informational articles, social media posts and other sources, history is everyhere--in Civilization VI, "life-size" role-playing games, The Berlin Trilogy, The Iron Throne, and the works of Tolkien or Satrapi. It's in cultural productions that evoke events or phenomena that happened or are still happening (Assassin's Creed Unity, SLĀV and Kanata, Gone With the Wind). This rise in popularity of history, along with an unprecedented access to social platforms, provide opposing and irrec...
