Il volume che, in collaborazione con il Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale, l’Accademia della Crusca realizza in occasione della Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo (XXIV edizione), esce in coincidenza con la Frankfurter Buchmesse (Fiera del Libro di Francoforte), 16-20 ottobre 2024, in cui l’Italia è il Paese ospite d’onore, per la seconda volta dopo il precedente del 1988. L’italiano e il libro: il mondo fra le righe sottolinea fin dal titolo che il libro arriva a rappresentare il mondo e che, attraverso il libro, la lingua italiana si apre al mondo. Private Libraries and their Documentation, 1665–1830
The essays in Private Libraries and their Documentation revolve around the users and contents of early modern private book collections, and around the sources used to document and study these collections. They take the reader from large-scale projects on historical book ownership to micro-level research conducted on individual libraries, and from analyses of specific types of primary sources to general typologies and overviews by period and by region. As a result of its comparative approach and active engagement with questions regarding the nature, selection and accessibility of sources, the volume serves as a guide to sources and resources in different regions as well as to state-of the-art methods and interpretational approaches. Publication of this volume in open access was made possible by the Ammodo KNAW Award 2017 for Humanities.

É o resultado de uma conferência intitulada Letterature in contrappunto. Esperienze di critica letteraria tra Mediterraneo e Atlantico, que ocorreu no dia 8 de dezembro de 2020, na Universidade Federal do Ceará. O livro reverbera o tema que o intitula.
