Hepatocellular carcinoma: from personalized medicine to practical guidelines

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver cancer. HCC is the fourth cause of cancer-related mortality and the fifth most common cancer in the world. The prognosis and survival of patients depend mainly on the cancer stage at time of diagnosis. Earlier detection of the disease has seen improvement in treatment and disease-free survival over the last several decades. Currently, the only curable treatment for HCC is tumor resection or transplantation. These measures are strictly successful only if caught during early-stage HCC. Research has identified multiple molecular pathways involved in HCC on genetic, epigenetic, and proteomic levels. There has been a lot of research into designing drugs to specifically target these molecular pathways affected in patients, and thus contributing to personalized medical treatment. There is abundant bioinformatic research to document the extensive molecular pathways involved as well as drug docking techniques used to assess drug candidates for treating those affected pathways. These bioinformatic techniques result in identifying candidates suitable for further analysis in tissue and animal models and human trials.

Frontiers of COVID-19

This book aims to serve the critical interests of the global community by supplying the most current knowledge and understanding of Covid-19 epidemiology, treatment, and prognoses. There was much uncertain and contradictory information published in the first year of the novel coronavirus. The dynamics of COVID-19 have now been realized, including the type of antibodies produced in infected patients and their limited lasting endurance. This book will set the record straight on the concept of “herd immunity” and explore the current vaccine trials taking place in different countries. This comprehensive book will illuminate recent advances regarding COVID-19 and offer a possible roadmap on how to move forward. Frontiers of COVID-19: A Pathophysiology and Epidemiology Roadmap of Novel Coronavirus Disease will be a vital and forward-looking guide for infectious disease clinicians, scientists and researchers, and students at the graduate level.

Perioperative Chemotherapy

One reason for failure to cure solid tumors by surgery appears to be the impossibility of controlling metastases that are present but latent at the time of operation. This failure is a common clinical experience with aggressive neoplasms. but it is not always appreciated in tumors with longer survival times. e. g .• breast and colon cancer. In addition. recent evidence indicates that after resection of a primary tumor micrometas tases from it might be enhanced by suppression of immune and reticu loendothelial functions of the host. Other factors, such as increase of coagulability and stress in the perioperative period, can also promote tumor growth. The development of new metastases might ...

Hybrid Animation

Artist imaginations continue to grow and stretch the boundaries of traditional animation. Successful animators adept and highly skilled in traditional animation mediums are branching out beyond traditional animation workflows and will often use multiple forms of animation in a single project. With the knowledge of 3D and 2D assets and the integration of multiple animation mediums into a single project, animators have a wealth of creative resources available for a project that is not limited to a specific animation medium, software package or workflow processs. Enhance a poignant scene by choosing to animate the scenic background in 2D while the main character is brought to life with 3D techniques. Balance the budget demands of a project by choosing to integrate a 2D or 3D asset to save time and expense. Choose which medium Hybrid Animation, learn the systematic development of the 2D and 3D assets and the issues surrounding choices made during the creative process.
