This book presents mainly experimental studies on the mechanical behavior and damage fracture mechanism of deep rocks including sandstone, marble, mudstone and granite, combining with several advanced technologies of X-ray micro-CT and AE monitoring. It has several unique features: 1) Investigates the influence of loading path on triaxial strength and deformation behavior of sandstone and marble; 2) Analyzes the effect of borehole size on triaxial strength and deformation behavior of hollow sandstone; 3) Explores the influence of high temperature on triaxial deformation and permeability behavior of sandstone and granite; 4) to reveal the damage fracture mechanism of deep rocks using spatial AE techniques and X-ray micro CT observations. This work will appeal to a wide readership from technicians in the field of geotechnical engineering and engineering geology to scholars carrying out research in the rock mechanics.
The concept of self-care is, in fact, thousands of years old. This buzzword is rooted in a 2,500-year old Chinese philosophy. ‘Yang sheng’ means to nourish life – fostering your own health and wellbeing by nurturing body, mind and spirit. In this book, Katie Brindle teaches readers how to harness this powerful natural healing system to improve every aspect of their life. Yang Sheng fits and works brilliantly in modern life. Some of the techniques may seem unusual, but they are all simple, quick and effective. Even more appealing, a key principle of Chinese medicine is balance; that means not being perfect or excluding foods or having too many rules or pushing yourself to exhaustion with overwork or over-exercise. And so, Yang Sheng encourages you to have the green juice and the glass of wine, a full-on day at work and a night out dancing. For people who are overtired and overtaxed, stressed, lacking a sex drive, or who feel anxious or hopeless, the practice of Yang sheng restores balance. Our bodies are designed to self-heal – Yang Sheng knows the mechanics of how to activate this.
Use Traditional Chinese Medicine in diagnosing and treating disease! Maciocia's The Practice of Chinese Medicine, 3rd Edition describes how to apply TCM theory to the diagnosis and treatment of disorders and conditions frequently encountered in practice. Covering common, chronic, and acute conditions, Maciocia's provides guidelines to treatment with both acupuncture and Chinese herbs. Case studies offer real-world insights into determining effective treatment care. From an expert team of editors who were close to the late Giovanni Maciocia and who practice "the Maciocia way," this practical, illustrated text makes it easier to apply TCM in Western medical practice. - Coverage of Traditional ...

The next generation of oncological hyperthermia involves the medical innovation of selectively heating up the malignant cells of the body in a controlled way. The easily-distinguishable biophysical and physiological characteristics of cancer cells and their immediate environment are the focus of the targeted energy delivery of this treatment. This heterogenic heating concept breaks with the homogeneous nature of conventional hyperthermia, where an isothermally equal temperature is applied to the large surface area of a solid tumor. Due to its selectivity, the new concept enables the usage of a significantly lower energy, making it safer, less toxic, and easier to use. This book shows the challenges facing oncological hyperthermia, and highlights clinical results obtained in various countries. It also presents discussions about the theoretical basis of the method, adding some technical discussions and clarifying the most difficult points of its design. The contributions dealing with clinical results use state-of-art conventional therapies with complementary hyperthermia and show the advantages of such a combination.

This book is a textbook and clinical manual on the treatment of modern Western medical diseases with Chinese medicine. By modern Western medical diseases, we mean all the disease categories of Western medicine excluding gynecology and pediatrics. By Chinese medicine, we mean standard contemporary professional Chinese medicine as taught at the two dozen provincial Chinese medical colleges in the People's Respublic of China. The two main therapeutic modalities used in the practice of this style of Chinese medicine are acupuncture-moxibustion and the internal administration of multi-ingredient Chinese medicinal formulas. Treatment plans for each disease discussed herein are given for each of these two main modalities.
Neijing is traditional Chinese medicine; it encompasses all the central tenets of Chinese medicine practised today. Neijing zhiyao, in two volumes, compiled by Li Zhongzi of the Ming dynasty, was carefully proofread by Xue Shengbai of the Qing dynasty. Among the hundred or so annotated editions of Neijing Suwen and Lingshu that appeared in different formats and styles in previous generations, only Neijing zhiyao compiled by Mr. Li Nianer of the Ming dynasty is the most succinct but pithy. —— from Sibu Zonglu Yiyaobian
