Seit mehr als zwanzig Jahren ist der Autor regelmäßig Gast in Sant'Angelo auf der Insel Ischia. Er schildert Begegnungen mit Fischern und Kartenspielern, den letzten Maultierführern des Ortes sowie Künstlern. Karneval und Konzerte, Prozessionen und religiöse Feste im Frühling und Herbst stehen neben dem Erlebnis von wilder Natur und ursprünglichen Orten. Besuche im späten Winter zeigen ein anderes Sant'Angelo: ohne Touristen, noch immer mit dem Rhythmus der ein- und auslaufenden Boote der Fischer. Erzählt wird auch die Geschichte einer außergewöhnlichen Deutschen, die vor fünfzig Jahren als Touristin nach Ischia kam und aus Liebe zu einem einheimischen Seemann in Sant'Angelo blieb.
