The Li Bo Poems

The preferred transliteration for the great Tang dynasty poet is "Li Bai" (he is also known as "Li Po"). Poet Steve Klepetar has chosen "Li Bo" so as to suggest the identification rather than insist on it. His character can be found in contemporary America, in the underworld, and in a timeless state of mind. He attends baseball games, pawns his watch, celebrates the fourth of July, travels, talks at a coffee shop, enjoys wine. Sometimes he is accompanied by a friend, an unnamed contemporary American guy.

Speaking to the Field Mice clusters around stories, the act of storytelling and the power of narrative. Many poems in the collection work with memories, both real and surreal; folk tales; myth; tales invented for each day of the week; narratives about magical women and girls; even a hapless man who loses his girlfriend because he is incapable of making anything up - which turns out to be quite a story in itself.

What Am I Missing?

What Am I Missing?

“What Am I Missing?” Illuminates the difficult life lesson that everyone is missing something in their lives. This truth includes six significant characters of the Hebrew Bible: Abraham and Rachel; Moses and Miriam; and David and Esther. Using texts from the Hebrew Bible as our source of interpretation, we search for the meaning of ‘what-is-missing’ in each of them and ourselves. These challenges provoke questions that have no simple answers and stimulate us to reflect on being a human with purpose and hope today.
