We read because we want to experience lives and emotions beyond our own, to learn, to see with others’ eyes. The 32 is a celebration of working-class voices from the island of Ireland. Edited by award-winning novelist Paul McVeigh, this intimate and illuminating collection features memoir and essays from established and emerging Irish voices including Kevin Barry, Dermot Bolger, Roddy Doyle, Lisa McInerney, Lyra McKee and many more. Too often, working-class writers find that the hurdles they come up against are higher and harder to leap over than those faced by writers from more affluent backgrounds. As in Common People – an anthology of working-class writers edited by Kit de Waal and the inspiration behind this collection – The 32 sees writers who have made that leap reach back to give a helping hand to those coming up behind. Without these working-class voices, without the vital reflection of real lives or role models for working-class readers and writers, literature will be poorer. We will all be poorer.
Plasticity of Metals: Experiments, Models, Computation
This is the final report, drawing its conclusions and results from many individual papers and co-workers at the Institute for Structural Analysis of the Technical University of Braunschweig. It shows the correlation between energetic and mechanical quantities of face-centred cubic metals, cold worked and softened to different states. Constitutive models for the plastic of metals are developed and the application of these models is presented. The improvements achieved by this contribution cover the material functions, the shape of yield surfaces, and the consideration of distributed experimental data within the mumerical analysis.
Das Jahr 1813, Ostmitteleuropa und Leipzig
In Anknüpfung an die vielfältige historische Erforschung der Kommemorierung von Kriegen sowie der damit einhergehenden Formen von Erinnerungspolitik widmet sich dieser Sammelband einer Thematisierung des Völkerschlachtereignisses in den Gedächtniskulturen Ost(mittel)europas. Konkreten Anlass dazu bot das Leipziger Doppeljubiläum: jenes der Schlacht im Jahre 1813 sowie das der Einweihung des Völkerschlachtdenkmals im Jahre 1913. Im Zentrum stehen dabei kultur- und erinnerungsgeschichtliche Perspektiven – mit einem Schwerpunkt auf jeweiligen nationalen Narrativen und daran hängenden Mythenbildungen. Auch finden mediale Aufbereitungen des Ereignisses in Literatur, bildender Kunst und Film besondere Berücksichtigung.

The Electron Mass and Calcium Isotope Shifts
This thesis presents the first isotope-shift measurement of bound-electron g-factors of highly charged ions and determines the most precise value of the electron mass in atomic mass units, which exceeds the value in the literature by a factor of 13. As the lightest fundamental massive particle, the electron is one of nature’s few central building blocks. A precise knowledge of its intrinsic properties, such as its mass, is mandatory for the most accurate tests in physics - the Quantum Electrodynamics tests that describe one of the four established fundamental interactions in the universe. The underlying measurement principle combines a high-precision measurement of the Larmor-to-cyclotron frequency ratio on a single hydrogen-like carbon ion studied in a Penning trap with very accurate calculations of the so-called bound-electron g-factor. For the isotope-shift measurement, the bound-electron g-factors of two lithium-like calcium isotopes have been measured with relative uncertainties of a few 10^{-10}, constituting an as yet unrivaled level of precision for lithium-like ions.

Writing Home
In Writing Home: The 'New Irish' Poets, more than 50 poets from all over the world explore the many meanings and connotations of the word 'home'. Hailing from places as diverse as India and Italy, Poland and Pakistan, Canada and the Democratic Republic of the Congo - as well as the US, the UK and Ireland itself - together they present an updated picture of a changing country while, at the same time, expanding the very definition of 'writing from Ireland'. The poems gathered here are as various and lively as we might hope for. Some contributors might be said to 'write home' in the traditional sense, describing and explaining what they find in the place they now live; for others 'writing home' is a determined, creative act of self-definition. For all of them there is the real sense that writing is itself a kind of home-building, not least at a time when so many borders, physical and psychological, are under threat of closure across the world.
