BIOGRAPHY & AUTOBIOGRAPHY. AUSTRALIAN. I am a surviving victim of the Bali bombings of October 2005. My son (16), daughter (13), and I had just sat down in a Kuta Square restaurant when the suicide bomber detonated himself just a few metres away. My daughter and I were injured; my son did not survive the blast. Almost immediately, two holidaying Australian nurses reached the scene and assisted us as well as other victims. Without their assistance I clearly would not have survived. Recently I published a book about this event, which begins with our holiday and travels through to the first anniversary. The result is a graphic, multi-dimensional account of how an act of terrorism affects all the people involved for years to come, and not only those that were injured or killed in the attack. The feedback so far has been amazingly positive.

I have listened to people telling me how lucky I was to be born when I was (1938) and how difficult it is to manage today. Life was apparently all coming up roses and life has never been the same since. Well I think that you should read this selective autobiography and see what some of life was really about and why you might think it was hard work and endeavour that produced today's life and that some of the same effort today can give you the same returns. Shakespeare I understand noted the seven stages of life, this will have as many stages as I find relevant.

Directed by visionary comics legend Todd McFarlane (Spawn) and veteran animator Kevin Altieri (Batman: The Animated Series), this achievement in animation told a graphic and dark history of the world in four gripping minutes and is widely considered one of the best music videos of all time. Now, the full story of the making of this historic video will be told. Lushly illustrated by the video's striking animation cells with never before seen storyboards and designs from the video, the video's co-producer, Joe Pearson, will guide readers through the fascinating process of bringing the band’s vision to life in this one-of-a-kind art book.

This volume aims to provide the reader with a broad cross-section of empirical research being carried out into engineers at work. The chapters provide pointers to other relevant studies over recent decades – an important aspect, we believe, because this area has only recently begun to coalesce as a field of study and up to now relevant empirical research has tended to be published across a range of academic disciplines. This lack of readily available literature might explain why contemporary notions of engineering have drifted far from the realities of practice and are in urgent need of revision. The principal focus is on what empirical studies tell us about the social and technical aspect...

Surfing has fascinated filmmakers since Thomas Edison shot footage of Waikiki beachboys in 1906. Before the 1950s surf craze, surfing showed up in travelogues or as exotic background for studio features. The arrival of Gidget (1959) on the big screen swept the sport into popular culture, but surfer-filmmakers were already featuring the day's best surfers in self-narrated two-reelers. Hollywood and independent filmmakers have produced about three dozen surf films in the last half-century, including the frothy Beach Party movies, Point Break (1991) and Chasing Mavericks (2012). From Bud Browne's earliest efforts to The Endless Summer (1966), Riding Giants (2004) and today's brilliant videos, over 1,000 surfing movies have celebrated the stoke. This first full-length study of surf movies gives critical attention to hundreds of the most important films.
