The theory of shareholder value is an issue that has to comprise a dichotomy in terms of the standpoint from which it is looked at. Shareholders and the management of a company in many cases still represent counterparts whereas interests do not continuously align. In this study shareholder value theory is approached by investigating the shareholder perspective in correspondence to shareholder wealth gains in the UK market environment through the implementation of six major financial performance measurement methods including: the Price/Earnings ratio, the Discounted Cash Flow Model, the Dividend Valuation Model, the Economic Value Added, the Market Capitalization, the Capital asset Pricing Model and the shareholder value approach as suggest by Alfred Rappaport. Having applied them to six selected stock listed companies enabled the author to develop a shareholder value ranking according to their financial performance and the deriving shareholder value dedication.

Making the Impossible Possible

Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease that mainly affects the skin and peripheral nerves. Left untreated, it can cause progressive and permanent disability. But a diagnosis of leprosy can have consequences that go far beyond the disease's physical manifestations. The age-old stigma associated with leprosy can result in severe social discrimination that robs people of opportunities in life and condemns them to society's margins. This book is the most detailed account yet of Yohei Sasakawa's quest, over two decades as WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination, to work for a world without leprosy and the discrimination it causes. It chronicles his travels to remote communities around th...

Explorations and Entanglements

Traditionally, Germany has been considered a minor player in Pacific history: its presence there was more limited than that of other European nations, and whereas its European rivals established themselves as imperial forces beginning in the early modern era, Germany did not seriously pursue colonialism until the nineteenth century. Yet thanks to recent advances in the field emphasizing transoceanic networks and cultural encounters, it is now possible to develop a more nuanced understanding of the history of Germans in the Pacific. The studies gathered here offer fascinating research into German missionary, commercial, scientific, and imperial activity against the backdrop of the Pacific’s overlapping cultural circuits and complex oceanic transits.

Gustav Guttenbeil and his brother Karl August Berthold left Pyritz in 1880, on the long journey to Tonga. They firstly went to London then boarded the ship the Cuzco and headed to Sydney before ultimately taking the ship the Sirocco to Tonga arriving in 1881."Why did Hermann Gustav Guttenbeil leave Germany for the tiny island Kingdom of Tonga at the opposite ends of the earth? How did he even know such a place existed? And what sort of life did he build for himself in such a strange land? This book attempts to answer those questions, while chronicling the history of the family in Germany, and telling the rich story of Hermann, his children and his grandchildren in Tonga. This book is thoroughly researched and illustrated, and contains material from a variety of sources. Of special interest is some never-before published secret material revealing just what the Germans in Tonga got up to during the Second World War, and why they were interned in New Zealand"--Back cover.
