Pequenos e grandes escândalos envolvendo empresas mais ou menos conhecidas são frequentemente noticiados pelos meios de comunicação social. Alguns dão mesmo lugar a processos judiciais. O jurista (e não só) pretenderá então saber se os órgãos de fiscalização das sociedades anónimas envolvidas poderiam ou deveriam ter atuado de outra forma para impedir que tais problemas surgissem ou, pelo menos, para evitar ou fazer diminuir as respetivas consequências.
