As almas da gente negra
As Almas da Gente Negra é um ensaio literário datado da juventude do líder negro em que são comentados os longos e hostis anos da Reconstrução do Sul. Momento em que os negros viram-se livres, mas inteiramente excluídos da sociedade que, à primeira vista, parecia ter entrado em novos tempos. A obra está dividida em 14 capítulos- 13 ensaios e um conto. Ao longo dos ensaios, Du Bois discute e sobretudo apresenta diversas questões e problemas fundamentais para o povo negro; entre eles, a função que teria uma universidade negra e o papel feminino na sociedade, antecipando uma das discussões cruciais das décadas posteriores.
"Cantares ao meu povo"
Este livro analisa a poesia de Solano Trindade (1908?1974), especificamente o livro "Cantares ao meu povo", publicado em 1961, em São Paulo, pela Editora Fulgor. Solano foi filiado ao Partido Comunista Brasileiro (PCB), nos anos 1940, realizou conferência de poesia no Teatro Experimental do Negro (TEN), foi diretor do Teatro Popular Brasileiro (TPB), nos anos 1950, e escreveu poemas sociais, que reivindicam a memória da escravidão e as lutas contra o racismo, por alimentação, moradia, educação e serviços de saúde. Escreveu também poemas que representam de forma positiva as religiões afro-brasileiras e as mulheres negras. Considerando esses aspectos, o objetivo deste livro é discutir conceitualmente a poesia de Trindade como movimento social negro, articulando literatura, história e sociologia.
Da senzala ao palco
Este livro analisa o sucesso – nos teatros, nas partituras e na indústria fonográfica – das criações musicais de descendentes de africanos escravizados no Brasil e nos Estados Unidos, entre o final do século XIX e o início do XX. O diálogo entre essas produções revela a densidade dos trânsitos culturais no mundo atlântico e o protagonismo de músicos negros, como Eduardo das Neves e Bert Williams. Sua entrada nos circuitos musicais e artísticos, em meio à construção de estereótipos racistas, constitui exemplo do modo como esses artistas, com talento, ironia e humor, desafiaram e subverteram a inferiorização que lhes era imposta, tornando-se famosos no mercado musical do período. A obra disponibiliza 201 imagens, 47 fonogramas e 5 vídeos, permitindo ver e escutar ao mesmo tempo em que se realiza a leitura do texto.

This study, a history of the kind of people who are supposed to have one, challenges the fashionable view that so-called primitives live in a timeless present. The conventional wisdom, that such societies are static, is shown by the author to be an artifact of anthropological method.
