O GREMI em poucos anos de existência passou a ser o mais importante evento cultural do Estado. Revelando talentos, o festival ganhou apoio e reconhecimento, se transformando no grande acontecimento das primaveras inhumenses. Durante três dias de setembro, Inhumas se modificava para receber as milhares de pessoas envolvidas com o festival. Nomes importantes da literatura, música e artes plásticas sempre marcaram presença na comissão julgadora imprimindo mais brilho ao evento. Genésio Tocantins, Juraíldes da Cruz, Valter Mustafé, Braguinha, Alcione Guimarães, Delermando Vieira, Ubirajara Galli, Nonato, Luiz Mauro são nomes da cultura de Goiás que muito devem ao GREMI. Foi ali que eles foram revelados e ganharam condições de profissionalização. O festival em seus tempos áureos chegou a receber 200 inscrições somente na categoria de composições próprias. Os concorrentes vinham de longe: São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais. O GREMI estava entre os três maiores festivais do Brasil." Malu Longo, jornal O Popular, 1994.

While the cause of this epidemic is still unclear, it appears that the westernized life style is playing an important role, which includes nutrition, possibly air pollution as well as hygienic conditions. While epidemiologic studies were able to narrow down these factors, basic research discovered novel mechanisms that control the organism ́s tolerance against allergens. Particularly interesting is the role of microorganisms that colonize or infect a host and thereby cause damage and immunological activation followed by sensitization or exacerbation of already existing sensitizations. However at the same time microbial activation of the immune system can help to generate a protective immunity that prevents allergen sensitization. The current book is collecting these evidences and connects epidemiologic and clinical mechanistic knowledge. Only the synthesis of this knowledge will help to find solutions to the ongoing allergy epidemic in terms of public health activities, prevention and therapy.
