Relationships in Organized Helping
This edited volume offers up-to-date research on the interactive building and managing of relationships in organized helping. Its contributions address this core of helping in psychotherapy, coaching, doctor-patient interaction, and digital helping interaction and document and analyze essential communicative practices of relationship management. A summarizing contribution identifies common dimensions of relationship management across the different helping contexts and thereby provides a framework for understanding and researching how interactive practices and helping relationships are interconnected. The volume brings together researchers and practitioners and merges academic approaches to studying relationships with practical knowledge about verbal helping in these settings. Dem Ruf nach fundierter Forschung zu Beratung, Coaching und Supervision folgend, sind in diesem Band einige der neuesten Ergebnisse zur Beratungsforschung aus der Perspektive verschiedener Disziplinen – beispielsweise der Sprachwissenschaft, der Sozialwissenschaften, der Psychologie und der Erziehungswissenschaft – sowie Impulse aus der Praxis vereint. Auf dem Weg zu einer Forschung, in der die Disziplinen Ergebnisse nicht mehr nebeneinander, sondern miteinander generieren, wird zwischen den einzelnen Beiträgen ein Netz gespannt und so gezeigt, wie reichhaltig bereits jetzt die Grundlage für die gemeinsame Arbeit ist. Pragmaticizing Understanding
The ideas that mark modern-day pragmatics are old, but did not start to get more systematically developed until the 1960s and 1970s. Still, the very recognition of pragmatics as a self-standing academic discipline is a product of the 1980s, not least made possible by the establishment of the International Pragmatics Association. One scholar in particular has devoted his life both to IPrA and to the discipline. This volume pays homage to Jef Verschueren on the occasion of his 60th birthday. It celebrates him for his long-standing dedication as Secretary General of IPrA and for his scholarly contributions to the field. We owe to Jef Verschueren the insight that the processes through which language users (do or do not) achieve understanding among each other in communication can only be fully comprehended if approached from a pragmatic perspective, i.e. if understanding is pragmaticized. The chapters in this book are written by scholars who, like Jef Verschueren, have played a key role in the genesis and development of the field, and who still actively contribute to its advancement today. Rhetorikratgeber als Beispiel für Laienlinguistik
Die Studie setzt an der Schnittstelle von wissenschaftlicher Sprachkritik und naturwüchsiger Sprachbewertung an und versucht das historisch schwierige Verhältnis zwischen Laienlinguistik und Linguistik zu regulieren. Die zentrale These, dass viele der Schwierigkeiten im Kern auf eine falsche wechselseitige Wahrnehmung zurückführbar sind, wird gestützt, indem eine linguistische Diskursanalyse von 47 Rhetorikratgebern den Untersuchungsgegenstand "Laienlinguistik" schärft. The Pragmatics of Executive Coaching
The Pragmatics of Executive Coaching is the first linguistic monograph on executive coaching, a recent, not fully professionalized, yet booming helping professional format in the organizational realm. The book is positioned at the interface between applied linguistic analysis and the activity of coaching, coupled with its structuring professional theory. It presents the Basic Activity Model of coaching, a model for the qualitative analysis and description of the discursive co-construction of coaching by coach and client within and across individual coaching sessions and whole processes. The analysis is based on 150 hours of authentic data from the coaching approach Emotionally Intelligent Coaching and presents coaching as hybrid and interdiscursive helping professional format. The gained insights into the discursive layout of coaching interactions advance our linguistic understanding of helping professions as such, contribute to the theoretical and methodological underpinning of coaching and help promote the coaching practice.

Die Studie basiert auf acht authentischen Beratungsgesprächen, die gefilmt und transkribiert wurden. Mit der Gesprächsanalyse erforscht die Autorin, wie beide Gesprächsbeteiligte ein gemeinsames Verständnis über den Text entwickeln, implizites und explizites Wissen verhandeln. Dabei spielen die unterschiedlichen Perspektiven der Schreibenden und Beratenden eine zentrale Rolle. Ihre Analysen belegen, dass das Textfeedback einen besonderen Stellenwert in der Wissenschafts- und Hochschulkommunikation hat. Das Gespräch über wissenschaftliche Texte gewinnt zunehmend an Bedeutung. Die datengeleitete Studie liefert neue Erkenntnisse für die Schreibdidaktik und die Gesprächsforschung.
