From COVID to Kobe, murder hornets to Christmas day bombings, Brexits to elections, if there's one thing the world can agree on, it's that 2020 was a total $h!tshow. Still, we found time to connect with others, and ourselves. The whole world slowed down for a brief period of time, in in those moments we looked around and discovered what really matters. In this collection, more than two dozen authors share their stories of hope, inspiration, despair, and surviving 2020. Featuring short stories, journal entries, streams of thought, and original poetry, all paired with images that represent the year the world stopped, How I Survived 2020 will leave you speechless yet inspired. Authors: Saata Corneh, Yuka Sato, Nikki, Dean Gessie, Guinevere Schaal, Anne Harrison, Marie McMullin, Jo Steer, Destiny Kilgore, Jennifer White, Nisa Moazzam Gulzar, Javishkar Reddy, J.J. Applications of X-ray Computed Tomography in the Geosciences

X-ray computed tomography (CT) is a technique that allows non-destructive imaging and quantification of internal features of objects. X-ray CT reveals differences in density and atomic composition and can therefore be used for the study of porosity, the relative distribution of contrasting solid phases and the penetration of injected solutions. In this book, various applications of X-ray CT in the geosciences are illustrated by papers covering a wide range of disciplines, including petrology, soil science, petroleum geology, geomechanics and sedimentology.

From Abbotts To Zurich

Sangerfield: The town was established in 1795 on land originally owned by Jebediah Sanger who, wanting to have a new settlement named after him, promised a cask of rum for the first town meeting and 50 acres to the first church. The rum was drunk at the first town meeting in 1795. The Native American name for the site was Skanawis, "a long swamp." East New York: John Pitkin came here from Connecticut in 1835 and bought land that he developed. He chose this name to make people think that this place was the eastern end of New York City. Morganville: This place was named for William Morgan, a former Mason, who had written a book that supposedly revealed the secrets of Masonry. He disappeared in...

This book, written from the author's personal knowledge of the district, is a picture of the fabulous and violent past of Pennsylvania's famed coke region and of its uncertain present. In tracing its history Sheppard shows the changes in methods of production and in the racial character of the population; she pictures early mob violence, the activities of coal and iron police, and the conditions that led to union organization in the section. The History of the Theory of Structures

Ten years after the publication of the first English edition of The History of the Theory of Structures, Dr. Kurrer now gives us a much enlarged second edition with a new subtitle: Searching for Equilibrium. The author invites the reader to take part in a journey through time to explore the equilibrium of structures. That journey starts with the emergence of the statics and strength of materials of Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo, and reaches its first climax with Coulomb's structural theories for beams, earth pressure and arches in the late 18th century. Over the next 100 years, Navier, Culmann, Maxwell, Rankine, Mohr, Castigliano and Müller-Breslau moulded theory of structures into a fundam...
