Abstract: Primary refractory or relapsed acute myeloid leukemia is associated with a dismal prognosis. Allogeneic stem cell transplantation is the only therapeutic option that offers prolonged survival and cure in this setting. In the absence of a matched sibling donor, transplantation from unrelated 10/10 HLA allele-matched or 9/10 HLA allele-mismatched donors and haploidentical donors are potential alternatives. The current study aimed to compare the outcomes of acute myeloid leukemia patients with active disease who received allogeneic stem cell transplantation from a haploidentical donor with post-transplant cyclophosphamide (n=199) versus an unrelated 10/10-matched donor (n=1111) and ve...

Abstract: Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant remains the only curative treatment for myelofibrosis. Most post-transplantation events occur during the first two years and hence we aimed to analyze the outcome of 2-year disease-free survivors. A total of 1055 patients with myelofibrosis transplanted between 1995 and 2014 and registered in the registry of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation were included. Survival was compared to the matched general population to determine excess mortality and the risk factors that are associated. In the 2-year survivors, disease-free survival was 64% (60-68%) and overall survival was 74% (71-78%) at ten years; results were better in younger individuals and in women. Excess mortality was 14% (8-21%) in patients aged

Written in 1940 during Brecht's brief exile in Finland, Puntila is one of his greatest creations. A hard-drinking Finnish landowner, Puntila suffers from a divided personality - when drunk he is human and humane; when sober, surly and self-centred. Oscillating unsteadily between these two poles, Puntila plays havoc with his workmen, his women, his daughter's marital arrangements and the loyalty of his sardonic chauffeur, Matti. 'Mr Puntila and his Man Matti' contains some of the best comedy Brecht wrote for the theatre. It was first staged in Zurich in 1948.

An intense and lively debate on literature and art between thinkers who became some of the great figures of twentieth-century philosophy and literature. With an afterword by Fredric Jameson No other country and no other period has produced a tradition of major aesthetic debate to compare with that which unfolded in German culture from the 1930s to the 1950s. In Aesthetics and Politics the key texts of the great Marxist controversies over literature and art during these years are assembled in a single volume. They do not form a disparate collection but a continuous, interlinked debate between thinkers who have become giants of twentieth-century intellectual history.

The Case of Literature

In The Case of Literature, Arne Höcker offers a radical reassessment of the modern European literary canon. His reinterpretations of Goethe, Schiller, Büchner, Döblin, Musil, and Kafka show how literary and scientific narratives have determined each other over the past three centuries, and he argues that modern literature not only contributed to the development of the human sciences but also established itself as the privileged medium for a modern style of case-based reasoning. The Case of Literature deftly traces the role of narrative fiction in relation to the scientific knowledge of the individual from eighteenth-century psychology and pedagogy to nineteenth-century sexology and crimin...
