Na parte introdutória, abordamos desde a descrição inicial do locus CRISPR (do inglês Clustered Regularly Interspaced Palindromic Repeats) até a descoberta do mecanismo de funcionamento e o desenvolvimento de formas adaptadas deste sistema para edição gênica direcionada e precisa do genoma de diversos organismos. Em seguida, apresentamos, detalhadamente, o passo a passo de como realizar uma edição gênica de maneira prática e confiável, através do sistema CRISPR/Cas9.

Biological Therapy for Inflammatory Bowel Disease
The treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has posed a major challenge since its appearance. Biomedical researchers, physicians, gastroenterologists, and surgeons have struggled to improve the quality of life of their patients and have sought, above all else, to keep the disease under remission for as long as possible. Blockers for tumoral necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) were the first biological drugs to be discovered and for this reason they played a crucial role in the subsequent evolution of IBD treatment. The aim of this book is to provide an overview of such drugs and the latest developments in IBD immunopathology. Investor Protection and Corporate Governance
'Investor Protection and Corporate Governance' analyzes the impact of corporate governance on firm performance and valuation. Using unique datasets gathered at the firm-level the first such data in the region and results from a homogeneous corporate governance questionnaire, the book examines corporate governance characteristics, ownership structures, dividend policies, and performance measures. The book's analysis reveals the very high levels of ownership and voting rights concentrations and monolithic governance structures in the largest samples of Latin American companies up to now, and new data emphasize the importance of specific characteristics of the investor protection regimes in several Latin American countries. By and large, those firms with better governance measures across several dimensions are granted higher valuations and thus lower cost of capital.
