The growth of implant and fixed prosthodontics practices in dentistry has created a rapidly increasing demand for advanced ceramics and ceramic processes. Innovations in ceramics and ceramic processes are vital to ensure reliable and affordable dental-restoration solutions with aesthetically pleasing outcomes. The work aims to engage the bioceramics and engineering communities to meet the challenges of modern dental restoration using advanced ceramics. Incorporating fundamental science, advanced engineering concepts, and clinical outcomes, the work is suitable for bioceramicists, ceramics manufacturers, dental clinicians and biologists. - State-of-the-art-coverage encompasses bioresorbable c...
With the constant evolution of implant technology, and improvement in the production of allograft and bone substitutes, the armamentarium of the orthopaedic surgeon has significantly expanded. In particular, the recent involvement of nanotechnologies opens up the possibilities of new approaches in the interactive interfaces of implants. With many important developments occurring since the first edition of this well-received book, this updated resource informs orthopaedic practitioners on a wide range of biomechanical advances in one complete reference guide. Biomechanics and Biomaterials in Orthopedics, 2nd edition compiles the most prominent work in the discipline to offer newly-qualified orthopedic surgeons a summary of the fundamental skills that they will need to apply in their day-to-day work, while also updating the knowledge of experienced surgeons. This book covers both basic concepts concerning biomaterials and biomechanics as well as their clinical application and the experience from everyday practical use. This book will be of great value to specialists in orthopedics and traumatology, while also providing an important basis for graduate and postgraduate learning.
The latest scientific and clinical information regarding the use of ceramics in orthopaedic surgery. CeramTec has had a long and close relationship with the French orthopaedic community and this community has been an incontestable pioneer in the use of ceramic in this field of orthopaedics. That is why the symposium takes place in Paris under the presidency of Professor J.-Y. Lazennec, Hôpital Pitié Salpêtrière.
Dear Colleague and Participant of Bioceramics in Joint Arthroplasty 8'h Biolox" Symposium It is a pleasure for us to be able to present you with the proceedings of this Symposium. This is something that we are very proud of, as it is the first time that we have been able to achieve our objective of distributing this collection of all presentations made at this Symposium in a printed form at this time. The achievement of this goal was reached in great part as a result of the excellent cooperation of all of the speakers as well as the commitment of the publishing house to assist us in every way possible to meet the strict deadlines imposed. Additionally, a special thanks must also be given to ...
Dear Colleague and Participant in Bioceramics and Alternative Bearings in Joint th ® Arthroplasty: 11 International BIOLOX Symposium We are once again very proud of the fact that we have been able to provide you with the proceedings of this Symposium as a part of your registration materials. This is a mayor achievement that could only be made possible by the excellent cooperation of all of the speakers, the publishing house and their staff and the Symposium Administrator and her support staff. Our special thanks to all of them for their hard work and dedication to meet the difficult deadlines required to make this a reality. The proceedings for this Symposium continue the on-going tradition...
This two volume set contains comprehensive coverage of management of disorders of the adult hip. It includes all arthroscopic and open procedures as well as extensive coverage of equipment and prostheses.
This chapter reviews the structure, mechanical properties, and biocompatibility of load-bearing ceramics used in dentistry. The development of this class of ceramic biomaterials is traced from the late sixties when alumina was introduced in dentistry. The literature on both polycrystalline and single crystal alumina dental implants is reviewed. The use of alumina declined when zirconia-toughened ceramics were introduced in orthopedics in the eighties. The use of yttria partially-stabilized tetragonal zirconia (Y-TZP) in dentistry allowed the production not only of dental implants and abutments, but also a broad range of load-bearing fixed partial dentures, such as multi-unit bridges and crowns, thanks to the development of CAD/CAM technology. Today, the trend is to use alumina and zirconia ceramics for making more aesthetic parts by improving their optical translucency.
Bioceramics are an important class of biomaterials. Due to their desirable attributes such as biocompatibility and osseointegration, as well as their similarity in structure to bone and teeth, ceramic biomaterials have been successfully used in hard tissue applications. In this book, a team of materials research scientists, engineers, and clinicians bridge the gap between materials science and clinical commercialization providing integrated coverage of bioceramics, their applications and challenges. The book is divided into three parts. The first part is a review of classes of medical-grade ceramic materials, their synthesis and processing as well as methods of property assessment. The secon...
Sustainable biomaterials are used as substitutions for traditional materials in aerospace, automotive, civil, mechanical, environmental engineering, medical, and other industries. This book presents the current knowledge and recent developments on the characterization and application of sustainable biomaterials with biomanufacturing 4.0 techniques. The book also describes the unique properties of various classes of sustainable biomaterials, making them highly suitable for many industrial applications. Advances in Sustainable Biomaterials: Bioprocessing 4.0, Characterizations, and Applications presents key chapters on smart biopolymer composites production and processing methods and provides ...
