In this insightful book, Bernadette Andreosso-OÕCallaghan and Daniel Rajmil bring together a diverse range of experts to explore how the uncertainties of the geopolitical and geo-economic sphere are being dealt with in international business. They question the suitability of existing policy and institutional responses, and advocate for a novel approach to the delineation of our future world.
The main objective of this book is to offer an overview and a critical assessment of current connectivity issues in Asia and Europe, seen from an industrial perspective. Critical insights into the contemporary debate on connectivity during times of crisis, which has led to significant economic and social disruptions, are offered throughout the book. European and Asian countries seek to "bounce forward" and not "bounce back" as they navigate the complex economic recovery process. Innovation and investment emerge as critical players to help an economic recovery that shifts towards a more resilient and environmentally friendly approach, to ensure that the world economies stay connected. The global health crisis has revealed that, more than ever before, ubiquitous connectivity, underpinned by pioneering innovation, is a must. As such, governments worldwide need to ensure that businesses and societies emerge stronger and more resilient from existing and emerging crises by laying solid foundations that help to circumnavigate future disruptions of a global magnitude.
Asian and European countries have adopted different approaches to the conflicting priorities of economic growth and low carbon emissions. In this volume – based on the revised versions of papers presented at the 24th International Euro-Asia Research Conference held in 2019 – the contrasts between the schools of thought of each continent are explored thoroughly. Ranging from topics as diverse as city logistics, shareholder value and management practices, the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, Chinas geopolitical insights, sustainable agricultural development in India and the empowerment of women in Vietnam via microfinance, this book addresses sustainable development policies in China and Southeast Asia from many different perspectives.
In academic institutions worldwide, the call to decolonize the syllabus, curriculum, and the entire university experience is growing louder and more urgent. Yet, the conversation must extend beyond blogs, hashtags, and social media trends. This book dives deep into the critical need to challenge and transform the foundations of marketing education. Addressing the urgent need for deeper conversations, this book delves into the multifaceted process of decolonizing marketing theory and practice to foster a more inclusive field. Through an insightful collection of contributions, this book critically examines the entrenched roots of colonization, capitalism, and inequality, urging us to move beyo...
In 2015, the United Nations introduced its very ambitious 2030 Agenda, known as the Sustainable Developmental Goals or SDGs. The SDGs provide a comprehensive list of goals and targets to address social, economic and environmental issues. The book sheds light on the growing connections between the economic and financial fields and their impact on defining the international order and its economy. It examines the importance of trade and econom...
Introductory comments by Mirza (international business, U. of Bradford, UK) substantiate the suspicion that "globalization" and "regionalization" are indeed ambiguous concepts. In their thrust toward a general theory of gravity to explain this relationship in trade between countries, 29 representatives of academia and transnational corporations (TNCs) address facets of the new global economy: foreign direct investment, other international flows, and the role of governments and TNCs. Beyond a three chapter overview, 16 papers address regionalism in Europe, North America, and Asia. The final piece on integration strategies asks: "MNCs: From multidomestic to global and transnational firms?" Includes 20 figures, 20 tables, and maps of growth zones.
