"...The creation and propagation of a critical text of the LXX/OG has been a basic concern in modern scholarship. The two great text editions begun in the early 20th century are the Cambridge Septuagint and the Göttingen Septuagint, each with a 'minor edition' (editio minor) and a 'major edition' (editio maior). For Cambridge this means respectively H.B. Swete, The Old Testament in Greek (1909-1922) and the so-called 'Larger Cambridge Septuagint' by A.E. Brooke, N. McLean, (and H. St. John Thackeray) (1906- ). For Göttingen it denotes respectively Alfred Rahlfs's Handausgabe (1935) and the 'Larger Göttingen Septuagint' (1931- ). Though Rahlfs (editio minor) can be called a semi-critical e...

"Have You Seen, Son of Man?"

"This work examines the Vorlage of LXX Ezekiel 40-48, arguing that it represents a reworking of these chapters in light of the book as a whole. The author applies Skopostheorie, a modern functional theory of translation, to understand the goals of translation in LXX Ezekiel 40-48, which include highlighting the distance and hence authority of the source text, suggesting solutions to problems posed by the text, and updating elements of the vision in light of Hellenistic culture. The goal of the translation was both to preserve the authority and to heighten the persuasive power of these chapters for his Hellenistic readers" --

Septuagint Research

"The past few decades have witnessed a renewed scholarly interest in the Septuagint, especially with regard to its importance for the fields of theology, Jewish studies, classics, philosophy, history of religions, linguistics, and history of literature. To provide students and scholars alike with ready access to the most recent developments, this collection of essays presents a comprehensive and representative picture of septuagintal research today. Specifically, this volume surveys methodological issues, provides thematic and book-centered studies focused on the Old Greek-Septuagint translations, explores the use of these translations in the New Testament, and issues a call for the exploration of the theologies of the Septuagint as a bridge between the theologies of the Hebrew Bible and those of the New Testament. It brings together a variety of perspectives, from emerging voices to seasoned scholars, both English-speaking scholars working on the New English Translation of the Septuagint project and German-speaking scholars working on the Septuaginta Deutsch project" --

Exodus: A Commentary on the Greek Text of Codex Vaticanus is the first comprehensive commentary on the Septuagint in English. An introduction orients readers to the study of LXX Exodus and the manuscript of Codex Vaticanus. This is followed by a presentation of the text of Vaticanus opposite a fresh translation. In the commentary proper, Gurtner examines literary features of the Greek of Exodus in general as well as features particular to the text of Vaticanus. Some comparisons are made with other Greek traditions of Exodus in addition to translational features of Exodus with respect to its Vorlage.
