Mediation
Mediation is a very old practice that has been reborn to meet the needs of the contemporary world. It is thus increasingly present in today's societies. This book presents the theoretical foundations of mediation, as well as the way in which teachers and researchers in Information and Communication Sciences (ICS) have taken up this concept. Whether it is communicational, informational, cultural, organizational or societal, mediation belongs to a field of research, instituted by ICS, which sees in it a process of overcoming conflict, restoring communication and deconstructing social connections. Mediation: A Concept for Information and Communication Sciences inaugurates this set through its contribution to a state of the art of the theory and concepts used by the ICS community. It is addressed to teachers, researchers and students, as well as information professionals wishing to think about their daily practice.
Further Studies in the History of Construction: the Proceedings of the Third Annual Conference of the Construction History Society
This book is the third in the series of volumes which provide the papers of the conferences held at Queens' College, Cambridge by the Construction History Society. Papers cover different aspects of the history of construction, including studies of different building materials, building firms, the development and education of building professionals, the construction of buildings and infrastructure, methods and techniques of construction, and other subjects related to the history and development of buildings.
Brussels Housing
Modern urban terraced houses or row houses emerged in Europe from the 17th century onwards. Usually two to three storeys high and with a garden at the back, they formed the traditional urban block. In Brussels, this bourgeois form of housing took on a particularly varied and inspiring form – including the well-known Art Nouveau residences – and forms the DNA of the city to this day. This publication analyses 100 selected examples illustrating the emergence of the terraced house and its further development in other forms of housing. The result is a broad panorama and a history of the architecture and development of the city of Brussels with its particularly heterogenous cityscape.
The Telemachus Complex
Fatherhood today is in crisis. Fathers have gone missing, or have become their children’s playmates, and the symbolic authority of the father has lost its power. What remains of the father today in the wake of this decline, and what should the relation between children and parents now be? In addressing these questions, Massimo Recalcati draws inspiration from the story of Telemachus in Homer’s Odyssey. The Telemachus complex is the reverse of the Oedipus complex. Recalcati argues that children are possessed not just with a desire to annihilate their father, as their key rival in the contest to win the mother’s love, but also with a longing for a father-figure, as someone who brings meaning, structure and order to their lives and who imbues them with a sense of the future. This fresh and insightful account of the changing relations between parents and children in the era of the decline of the father will be of great interest to a wide general readership.

La médiation
La médiation est une pratique très ancienne qui renaît aujourd’hui pour répondre aux besoins du monde contemporain. Elle est ainsi de plus en plus présente dans les sociétés actuelles. Cet ouvrage présente les fondements théoriques de la médiation ainsi que la façon dont les enseignants-chercheurs en sciences de l’information et de la communication (SIC) s’approprient ce concept pour le développer et l’utiliser dans leurs problématiques. Qu’il s’agisse de médiation communicationnelle, informationnelle, culturelle, organisationnelle ou sociétale, elle appartient à un champ de recherche, pleinement investi par les SIC, qui voit en elle un processus de dépassement des conflits, de rétablissement de la communication et de construction des liens sociaux.
