Brave New Digital Classroom
Robert Blake, now with Gabriel Guillén, updates his successful book (1st ed. 2008, 2nd ed. 2013) on how to teach foreign languages using technology. Brave New Digital Classroom touches on all of the key concepts and challenges of teaching with technology, focusing on issues specific to FLL or L2 learning and CALL. Originally referred to as computer-assisted language learning, CALL has come to encompass any kind of learning that uses digital tools for language learning. This edition reframes the conversation to account for how technology has been integrated into our lives. Blake and Guillén address the ways technology can help with L2, how to choose the right digital tools, how to use those tools effectively, and how technology can impact literacy and identity. The book is primed for use in graduate courses: terminology is in bold and a comprehensive glossary is included; each chapter finishes with a short list of references for further reading on the topic and discussion questions. The authors provide short interview videos (free via GUP website) to enhance discussions on each chapter’s topic.
Behavioral Pharmacology
Behavioral pharmacology studies the biological bases of behavior and the pharmacological effects of natural or synthetic drugs through behavioral analysis, with the identification of substances that could contribute to improvement of the quality of life for humans. Through behavioral pharmacology, it is possible to generate knowledge about pharmacological bases that influence the normal or altered behavior from a multidisciplinary point of view, and which includes diverse areas of science. The purpose of this book “Behavioral Pharmacology- From Basic to Clinical Research” is to show some of the advances in the identification of pharmacological properties of natural and synthetic molecules that may be used in the development of pharmacological therapies destined for the treatment of illness and disorders that affect the wellness of humans.
The Transatlantic Hispanic Baroque
Gathering a group of internationally renowned scholars, this volume presents cutting-edge research on the complex processes of identity formation in the transatlantic world of the Hispanic Baroque. Identities in the Hispanic world are deeply intertwined with sociological concepts such as class and estate, with geography and religion (i.e. the mixing of Spanish Catholics with converted Jews, Muslims, Dutch and German Protestants), and with issues related to the ethnic diversity of the world’s first transatlantic empire and its various miscegenations. Contributors to this volume offer the reader diverse vantage points on the challenging problem of how identities in the Hispanic world may be analyzed and interpreted. A number of contributors relate earlier processes and formations to Neo-Baroque and postmodern conceptualisations of identity. Given the strong interest in identity and identity-formation within contemporary cultural studies, the book will be of interest to a broad group of readers from the fields of law, geography, history, anthropology and literature.
