Rough Sets and Current Trends in Computing
This volume constitutes the refereed proceedings of the First International Conference on Rough Sets and Current Trends in Computing, RSCTC'98, held in Warsaw, Poland, in June 1998. The volume presents 82 revised papers carefully selected for inclusion in the proceedings; also included are five invited contributions. The volume is divided in topical sections on rough set methods, statistical inference, grammar systems and molecular computations, logic in rough sets, intelligent control, rough sets in knowledge discovery and data discovery, data mining, evolutionary computation, hybrid methods, etc..
Large-Scale Modelling and Interactive Decision Analysis
These Proceedings report the scientific results of an International Workshop on Large-Scale Modelling and Interactive Decision Analysis organized Jointly by the System and Decision Sciences Program of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA, located in Laxenburg, Austria), and the Institute for Informatics of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR (located in Berlin, GDR). The Workshop was held at a historically well-known place - the Wartburg Castl- near Eisenach (GDR). (Here Martin Luther translated the Bible into German.) More than fifty scientists representing thirteen countries participated. This Workshop is one of a series of meetings organizE!d by or In collaboration with IIASA about which two of the Lecture Notes In Economics and Mathematical Systems have already reported (Voi. 229 and Vol. 246). This time the aim of the meeting was to discuss methodological and practical problems associated with the modelling of large-scale systems and new approaches In interactive decision analysis based on advanced information processing systems.

Genetic Programming
In this volume we present the contributions for the 18th European Conference on Genetic Programming (EuroGP 2005). The conference took place from 30 March to 1 April in Lausanne, Switzerland. EuroGP is a well-established conf- ence and the only one exclusively devoted to genetic programming. All previous proceedings were published by Springer in the LNCS series. From the outset, EuroGP has been co-located with the EvoWorkshops focusing on applications of evolutionary computation. Foundations of Genetic Programming
This is one of the only books to provide a complete and coherent review of the theory of genetic programming (GP). In doing so, it provides a coherent consolidation of recent work on the theoretical foundations of GP. A concise introduction to GP and genetic algorithms (GA) is followed by a discussion of fitness landscapes and other theoretical approaches to natural and artificial evolution. Having surveyed early approaches to GP theory it presents new exact schema analysis, showing that it applies to GP as well as to the simpler GAs. New results on the potentially infinite number of possible programs are followed by two chapters applying these new techniques.

All relevant issues in the area are addressed.
