Seduction is a complicated concept that is a part of the general human experience. Despite the prevalence of seduction in our personal lives as well as within popular culture, the concept has not been widely discussed and researched as an academic field. Seduction in Popular Culture, Psychology, and Philosophy explores the concept of seduction and the many ways it can be understood, either as a social and individual practice, a psychological trait, or a schema for manipulation. Taking a cross-disciplinary approach, this publication features research-based chapters relevant to sociologists, media professionals, psychologists, philosophers, advertising professionals, researchers, and graduate level students studying in related areas.

Human-Computer Interaction
The four-volume set LNCS 14011, 14012, 14013, and 14014 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Human Computer Interaction thematic area of the 25th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2023, which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, in July 2023. A total of 1578 papers and 396 posters have been accepted for publication in the HCII 2023 proceedings from a total of 7472 submissions. The papers included in the HCI 2023 volume set were organized in topical sections as follows: Part I: Design and evaluation methods, techniques and tools; interaction methods and techniques; Part II: Children computer interaction; emotions in HCI; and understanding the user experience; Part III: Human robot interaction; chatbots and voice-based interaction; interacting in the metaverse; Part IV: Supporting health, quality of life and everyday activities; HCI for learning, culture, creativity and societal impact.
Media Theory and Cultural Technologies
In recent decades, media theory has become one of the most influential trends in contemporary thinking, namely within cultural studies, the arts and humanities. Spreading mostly from the German scholarly scene, under the influence of post-structuralism, media theory has developed as a fundamental theoretical framework, for many fields of theoretical and applied research, through authors such as the late Friedrich Kittler, 1943–2011. Commenting on several aspects of Kittler’s work, and on its impact in different fields of art and culture, this essay collection examines recent developments in media theory brought about by concepts such as “cultural techniques” and “operative ontologies” and by key authors, contributing to this volume, such as Bernhard Siegert, Sybille Krämer and Peter Weibel.

Decoding Neural Circuit Structure and Function
This book offers representative examples from fly and mouse models to illustrate the ongoing success of the synergistic, state-of-the-art strategy, focusing on the ways it enhances our understanding of sensory processing. The authors focus on sensory systems (vision, olfaction), which are particularly powerful models for probing the development, connectivity, and function of neural circuits, to answer this question: How do individual nerve cells functionally cooperate to guide behavioral responses? Two genetically tractable species, mice and flies, together significantly further our understanding of these processes. Current efforts focus on integrating knowledge gained from three interrelated fields of research: (1) understanding how the fates of different cell types are specified during development, (2) revealing the synaptic connections between identified cell types (“connectomics”) using high-resolution three-dimensional circuit anatomy, and (3) causal testing of how iden tified circuit elements contribute to visual perception and behavior.

Literatura de cordel is a genre of folk literature popular in the northeastern region of Brazil. From The Cambridge history of Latin American literature: " ... there is a large and vibrant printed literature known as literatura de cordel (the name refers to the cord on which the little booklets were customarily suspended for display.)" Popular topics include "a wide array of journalistic accounts, religious fables, comic escapades, and love and adventure stories which might feature regional figures such as the northeastern bandits known as cangaceiros."
