Efectividad de las certificaciones ambientales ecoturísticas en la conservación de la biodiversidad
Tourism has been identified as an activity that promotes sustainable development and as abusiness option consistent with the principles of biodiversity conservation. In spite of this,tourism can also be a transforming force in natural ecosystems. Because of this environmentalcertifications have been created in order to inform consumers about the sustainabilityachievements of this industry. The biodiversity conservation component is evident both in thedefinition and promotion of ecotourism, as well as in the principles of certification, but thereare no efforts aimed at verifying the true scope of certification as regards the conservation ofbiodiversity. This work aims to determine the scope of ecotourism certification as a tool forbiodiversity conservation and to achieve this was chosen the Certificate of Sustainable Tourism(CST) of Costa Rica. To achieve this, the research was divided into three phases: Analyze thepurposes of tourism certification in Costa Rica; Analyze the processes that the hotels carry outto obtain certification aimed at the conservation of biodiversity; and, Evaluate the effect ofecotourism certification on attributes of biodiversity.
Aspectos de ecología trófica de la nutria gigante (Pteronura brasiliensis) y su interacción con la actividad pesquera en la estrella fluvial de Inírida, Guainía-Colombia
This research exposes the problematic related to the interactions between the giant otter (Family Mustelidae, Pteronura brasiliensis) and fishermen from four indigenous communities settled in the Ramsar site "Estrella Fluvial de Inírida", located in Department of Guainía, Colombia. Semi-structured interviews with fishermen reaffirm the existence of a negative perception regarding the presence of this mammal in their fishing areas. The shared use of the fishery resource by both species was less than 35%, which contradicts the competition concept and indirect interactions, studied using a theoretical food web model, shoved the overexploitation negative effects.
