Schumpeter entendía la economía como resultado del trabajo de los seres humanos. Ejemplificaba, pues, su capacidad de transformar el entorno. Entonces, el teórico de origen austriaco, establecía con claridad la posibilidad de encontrar ciertas formaciones sociales carentes de un sistema económico, en el sentido moderno de este concepto, empero, no podía existir ningún sistema económico sin sociedad.
