ODTÜ Bilim İletişimi Grubu (BİG) tarafından düzenlenen ve ODTÜ öğrencilerinin katılımına açık, 2. Bilim Kurgu Öykü Yarışmasının başvuruları, 1 Mart ve 26 Nisan 2021 tarihleri arasında kabul edildi. ODTÜ öğrencilerinin kaleme alacağı öykünün, sosyal bilimler ya da fen bilimleri alanında göç, nanoteknoloji, yapay zekâ, nörobilim gibi güncel araştırma konularından bir ya da birkaçına dayandırılması istendi.
Robots are increasingly becoming prevalent in our daily lives within our living or working spaces. We hope that robots will take up tedious, mundane or dirty chores and make our lives more comfortable, easy and enjoyable by providing companionship and care. However, robots may pose a threat to human privacy, safety and autonomy; therefore, it is necessary to have constant control over the developing technology to ensure the benevolent intentions and safety of autonomous systems. Building trust in (autonomous) robotic systems is thus necessary. The title of this book highlights this challenge: “Trust in robots—Trusting robots”. Herein, various notions and research areas associated with robots are unified. The theme “Trust in robots” addresses the development of technology that is trustworthy for users; “Trusting robots” focuses on building a trusting relationship with robots, furthering previous research. These themes and topics are at the core of the PhD program “Trust Robots” at TU Wien, Austria.
ODTÜ Bilim İletişimi Grubu ve ODTÜ Yayıncılık, tüm ODTÜ öğrencilerine açık, ODTÜ ile bağlantılı bir kurguya sahip, bilim kurgu türünde yazılmış özgün öyküler için 2019 Şubat ayında “Bilim Kurgu Öykü Yarışması” düzenledi. “ODTÜ’de geçen bir bilim kurgu öyküsü kaleme almaya ne dersin?” sorusuyla çıkılan yarışma ilanına birçok öğrenci, hayal gücünü bilim ile harmanlayıp, üniversite ortamını hikaye çerçevesine alan çok sayıda ODTÜ’ye özgü öykü kaleme alarak yanıt verdi.

The 1990s saw a paradigm change in the use of corpus-driven methods in NLP. In the field of multilingual NLP (such as machine translation and terminology mining) this implied the use of parallel corpora. However, parallel resources are relatively scarce: many more texts are produced daily by native speakers of any given language than translated. This situation resulted in a natural drive towards the use of comparable corpora, i.e. non-parallel texts in the same domain or genre. Nevertheless, this research direction has not produced a single authoritative source suitable for researchers and students coming to the field. The proposed volume provides a reference source, identifying the state of the art in the field as well as future trends. The book is intended for specialists and students in natural language processing, machine translation and computer-assisted translation.
