Recreating Creativity, Reinventing Inventiveness
As artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly used to generate inventions and creative works, a critical question to be addressed is whether intellectual property (IP) laws should protect such works. This book examines the critical question of whether intellectual property laws should protect works generated by artificial intelligence. If we do not wish to use IP laws to protect such works, how can we still support research, development, and innovation in society? If we do wish to use IP laws to protect such works, should the copyright, patents, and other IP rights attach to the human creator of the AI technology or the AI system? The book explores these compelling societal, economic, and legal issues. The authors evaluate the continuing relevance of existing laws, explore the divergent approaches being debated by nations around the world, and present visions for change. The book will enable both lawyers and non-lawyers to reimagine governance frameworks to create laws that equitably balance the interests of creators, investors, and end users of AI-generated works.
Computer Vision – ECCV 2020 Workshops
The 6-volume set, comprising the LNCS books 12535 until 12540, constitutes the refereed proceedings of 28 out of the 45 workshops held at the 16th European Conference on Computer Vision, ECCV 2020. The conference was planned to take place in Glasgow, UK, during August 23-28, 2020, but changed to a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 249 full papers, 18 short papers, and 21 further contributions included in the workshop proceedings were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 467 submissions. The papers deal with diverse computer vision topics. Part II focusses on commands for autonomous vehicles; computer vision for ART analysis; sign language recognition, translation and production; visual inductive priors for data-efficient deep learning; 3D poses in the wild challenge; map-based localization for autonomous driving; recovering 6D object pose; and shape recovery from partial textured 3D scans.

The Architecture of Libraries in Western Civilization
The Architecture of Western Libraries, from the Minoan era to Michelangelo' deals with the architectural evolution of the spaces in which written and graphic material was kept, from the Minoan times to the Italian Renaissance (ca. 1600 BCE- 1600 CE). Nowadays these rooms are known as "libraries"; however, the library acquired its present form through a turbulent journey. The book deals extensively with the works of the Ionian and Eleatic Natural Philosophers, as well as of the Pyhagoreans, which informed the composition of Plato's Dialogues. Furthermore, through this process the fabric of Sophistic literature composed at Athens is unfolded and the pioneers who introduced the study of Mathematics in the Academy are discussed in brief.
