Questa è la storia di Min Green, di come lei e Ed Slaterton si incontrarono a una festa, andarono al cinema insieme, seguirono un’anziana signora, condivisero una stanza in un motel e si spezzarono i cuori a vicenda. «Ci vediamo lunedì!» hai gridato, come se ti fossi appena reso conto di che giorno fosse. Pensavamo di avere tempo. Ti ho fatto un cenno, ma non sono riuscita a rispondere, perché finalmente mi stavo lasciando andare a quell’immenso sorriso che avevo trattenuto per tutto il pomeriggio, tutta la sera, ogni secondo di ogni minuto con te, Ed. Merda, mi sa che ti amavo già allora. Condannata, come un bicchiere che si sa prima o poi andrà in frantumi, come un paio di scarpe che si consuma in tempo zero, una camicia nuova che in un attimo riduci da schifo. Il primo appuntamento: cosa potevo fare con il mio stupido cuore e il brivido di quel ci vediamo lunedì? pensando che c’era tempo, un sacco di tempo, per vedere le foto che avevamo fatto. Invece non le abbiamo mai sviluppate. È rimasto tutto nel rullino, tutta la storia buttata dentro una scatola prima che avessimo modo di sapere che cosa fosse, ed è per questo che ci siamo lasciati.
