Oliver Quade, the Human Encyclopedia
The bulk of this book consists of 11 stories by Gruber from Black Mask, but it also includes an introduction by Kevin Burton Smith about Gruber's Oliver Quade series, as well as an afterword by Keith Alan Deutsch, under the heading, "Black Mask Crime Review", called "Frank Gruber, Hardboiled Humor, and the Noir Revolution". The final entry of the book goes under the heading, "Behind the Black Mask" and is a short excerpt from Black Mask (May 1939), called, "Frank Gruber reveals how he writes an Oliver Quade story!"
Campaigning in Radical Right Heartland
Immigration and ethnic diversity are contentious political issues in contemporary Europe. Both increasingly structure the campaigning strategies of political parties. It presents findings from the heartland of the radical right studying competition on migration and diversity in Austria since the 1970s. It reveals how parties adapt their electoral priorities to changes in the party system and the socio-structural conditions. Internal exclusion, rather than full democratic inclusion, characterizes European immigration societies. Migrants build a part of politics and society, yet they are structurally excluded from participation in certain segments of the life. This edited volume aims to contribute to the explanation of the unequal access to differentiated rights and resources by using the concept of inclusion and exclusion. It focuses on material and symbolic mechanisms and conditions, attitudes and discourses, which produce differentiated rights and belongings of migrants. The book includes both conceptual-theoretical and empirical contributions. The topics addressed include: how spatial and temporal criteria regulate the access to social and political rights, which conflicts and negotiation processes over citizenship are taking place, which political actors are involved in these processes, and how civil society protests against exclusion.

Literary Reading, Cognition and Emotion
This work seeks to chart what happens in the embodied minds of engaged readers when they read literature. Despite the recent stylistic, linguistic, and cognitive advances that have been made in text-processing methodology and practice, very little is known about this cultural-cognitive process and especially about the role that emotion plays. Burk’s theoretical and empirical study focuses on three central issues: the role emotions play in a core cognitive event like literary text processing; the kinds of bottom-up and top-down inputs most prominently involved in the literary reading process; and what might be happening in the minds and bodies of engaged readers when they experience intense or heightened emotions: a phenomenon sometimes labelled "reader epiphany." This study postulates that there is a free-flow of bottom-up and top-down affective, cognitive inputs during the engaged act of literary reading, and that reading does not necessarily begin or end when our eyes apprehend the words on the page. Burke argues that the literary reading human mind might best be considered both figuratively and literally, not as computational or mechanical, but as oceanic.
