Este trabalho foi concebido durante anos de experiência nas disciplinas de Matemática Básica e Complementos de Matemática, para os cursos de Engenharia e Licenciatura. Atualmente, percebe-se uma necessidade crescente de materiais focados na complementação de aprendizagem em matemática nessas áreas. O estudo da matemática é importante no desenvolvimento do raciocínio lógico, da criatividade, da capacidade de investigação e da solução de problemas. A estatística, a ecologia e a computação são alguns exemplos de áreas profissionais que utilizam a matemática como ferramenta. Finalmente, os conceitos matemáticos conectam-se a disciplinas que antes eram estudadas isoladamente surgiu durante a profunda transformação da capacidade de aprendizagem. Se, por outro lado, essas mudanças resultam em um reconhecimento por parte de pais, educadores e gestores de instituições de ensino, por outro, podem ser um auxílio significativo no desenvolvimento do pensamento crítico e da consciência cívica entre mais cidadãos.
