La obra se enmarca en el estudio del fenómeno festivo, que tanto ha atraído a la historiografía en las últimas décadas. En este caso se estudian las fiestas de toros, que constituyen una de las expresiones festivas singularmente presentes en España desde la Edad Media hasta nuestros días.
