John Barnard Bode was born March 13, 1808 in Erkelin, Minden County, Westphalia. His father was John George Bode and his mother was Elisabeth Schroder from Pekelheim. John Barnard came to Rochester, New York on April 6, 1834 and married Mary Clareries on January 26, 1836.
