AI in Museums
Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly important topic in the cultural sector. While museums have long focused on building digital object databases, the existing data can now become a field of application for machine learning, deep learning and foundation model approaches. This goes hand in hand with new artistic practices, curation tools, visitor analytics, chatbots, automatic translations and tailor-made text generation. With a decidedly interdisciplinary approach, the volume brings together a wide range of critical reflections, practical perspectives and concrete applications of artificial intelligence in museums, and provides an overview of the current state of the debate.
ArtsIT, Interactivity and Game Creation
This book constitutes the refereed post-conference proceedings of the 10th EAI International Conference on ArtsIT, Interactivity and Game Creation, ArtsIT 2021 which was held in December 2021. Due to COVID-19 pandemic the conference was held virtually. The 31 revised full papers presented were carefully selected from 57 submissions. Palast der Republik
In einem Netzwerk haben mehr als 30 Studenten über mehrere Semester mit namhaften Einrichtungen (Landesarchiv Berlin, Humboldt-Universitätsgesellschaft, Best-Sabel Berufsfachschule für Design) und unserem Partnerverlag (Berliner Wissenschafts-Verlag) eine Buchpublikation und eine Ausstellung (Prenzlauer Berg Museum, Berlin) erarbeitet. Für die Publikation haben neben Professoren und Vertretern des sog. Mittelbaus auch Studierende unter intensiver redaktioneller Anleitung geschrieben. Herausgekommen ist ein 395-seitiges Buch, das erstmals mit distanziertem Blick auf die Debatte der letzten Jahre schaut. Ganz bewusst setzt sich das Projekt von den bisherigen Betrachtungen ab. Es geht nicht darum, Stellung zu beziehen, sondern die Debatte und ihre Akteure zum Thema zu machen. Der Palast ist tot und fast schon selber Geschichte. Es war deshalb unser Ziel als Historiker diesen Erinnerungsort zu betreten, bevor er zur Brache des Vergessens wird. Wir wollen dabei explizit über den Gruppen und ihren Sinnstiftungsansprüchen stehen und suchen nach Details und Differenzierungen.

The question of what characterizes feelings of being alive is a puzzling and controversial one. ChatGPT und andere »Quatschmaschinen«
Die Veröffentlichung von ChatGPT im Herbst 2022 heizte die Kontroverse um Künstliche Intelligenz an und führte zu einer seitdem unaufhörlichen Fragelust - verstärkt dadurch, dass dieselben Prompts schon kürzeste Zeit später andere Outputs generieren. In einem experimentellen Format präsentieren die Herausgeber*innen erste kommentierte Gespräche mit KI-Sprachmodellen. Sie geben Einblick in dialogische Szenen, die eine fortlaufende Transformation der Technik und Eigentümlichkeiten maschinellen Lernens erfassen. Die Sammlung zielt in Form witziger, unheimlicher und - mehr oder weniger - kluger Dialoge zwischen Mensch und Maschine auf die Dokumentation einer mediengeschichtlichen Passage in eine neue Ära allgegenwärtiger KI.
Contemporary Curating and Museum Education
In the context of critical museology, museums are questioning their social role, defining the museum as a site for knowledge exchange and participation in creating links between past and present. Museum education has evolved as a practice in its own right, questioning, expanding and transforming exhibitions and institutions. How does museum work change if we conceive of curating and education as an integrated practice? This question is addressed by international contributors from different types of museums. For anyone interested in the future of museums, it offers insights into the diversity of positions and experiences of translating the »grand designs« of museology into practice.
