No Brasil atual, a agenda ultraliberal, que vem sendo implementada pelo Estado, aprofunda os ataques aos trabalhadores, concretizando-se com a perda de direitos sociais e trabalhistas. E em meio ao caos no mundo do trabalho, estabelecido pelos interesses do capital, os professores e professoras tem o aprofundamento da precarização e intensificação do seu trabalho nas escolas deste país. Mas qual a perspectiva de mudança a favor dos trabalhadores em educação? Ao olharmos para o passado, podemos compreender que em momentos como este, mais do que nunca é necessária a organização dos trabalhadores, não somente para resistir, mas enfrentar esta conjuntura e ousar construir uma sociedade em que o trabalho não esteja subordinado ao capital.

Multiliteracies in English as an Additional Language Classrooms
This book presents different practices and strategies for the English as an additional language classroom as well as units that could be adapted to various grade levels, English language proficiency levels, and linguistic and cultural backgrounds. The research, lessons, and concepts included in the book present innovative ideas in EAL education. The chapters are the result of a professional learning program for 30 English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers from Brazil, held at the University of Miami’s School of Education and Human Development in the Spring semester of 2018. The program, entitled “Six-Week English Language Certificate Program for High School English Teachers from Brazil (PDPI),” contained several components related to language development and methodology, including orality, reading, writing, linguistic and grammatical knowledge, and interculturality. The program was guided by the principle of multiliteracies, with a focus on English language development through new possibilities to participate in meaning making that incorporates verbal, visual, body language, gestures, and audiovisual resources.

The Atlantic Forest
The Atlantic Forest is one of the 36 hotspots for biodiversity conservation worldwide. It is a unique, large biome (more than 3000 km in latitude; 2500 in longitude), marked by high biodiversity, high degree of endemic species and, at the same time, extremely threatened. Approximately 70% of the Brazilian population lives in the area of this biome, which makes the conflict between biodiversity conservation and the sustainability of the human population a relevant issue. This book aims to cover: 1) the historical characterization and geographic variation of the biome; 2) the distribution of the diversity of some relevant taxa; 3) the main threats to biodiversity, and 4) possible opportunities to ensure the biodiversity conservation, and the economic and social sustainability. Also, it is hoped that this book can be useful for those involved in the development of public policies aimed at the conservation of this important global biome.
Releasing Systems in Active Food Packaging
Valuable progress has been made in food packaging over the past two decades, reflecting advancements in process efficiency, improved safety and quality throughout the supply chain, and the need to reduce product loss and environmental impact. A new generation of food packaging systems, including active and intelligent packaging, is emerging, based on technological breakthroughs that offer the possibility of extending shelf-life, reducing food loss, and monitoring changes in the food product.
