Se enmarca el presente libro dentro del conjunto de estudios que analizan la solidaridad europea con las regiones españolas y su contribución al desarrollo de las mismas. Para ello, tomando como referencia la Comunidad Autónoma de Cantabria, se presenta la evolución de la economía regional durante las dos últimas décadas y se describen y cuantifican los recursos recibidos. Se añaden unas reflexiones y conclusiones sobre la posible contribución al crecimiento regional del volumen de ayudas europeas recibidas.

La presente obra constituye la plasmación por escrito de la Solemne Sesión Académica de Investidura como Doctor Honoris Causa del Profesor Sir John Elliott. Se inicia la publicación con la Laudatio realizada por el Profesor Doctor Don José Ignacio Fortea Pérez, seguida por el discurso de investidura que pronuncia el recién investido Doctor. A continuación se procede a la investidura de los nuevos Doctores por la UC y entrega de los premios Fin de Carrera, Extraordinarios de Doctorado, Literarios del Consejo Social y Sexto Premio Isabel Torres a Investigaciones en Estudios de las mujeres y del género. Tras esto, se entregan, a diferentes miembros de la comunidad universitaria, las distinciones a los servicios prestados y las Medallas de Plata. CANTABRIAE UNIVERSITAS (1972-2022)
Creada en 1972 como Universidad de Santander, la Universidad de Cantabria, que adoptó su actual nombre en 1985, cumple en el curso 2022-2023 sus primeros cincuenta años. Lo hace con una posición muy destacada en las clasificaciones nacionales, consolidada como una de las universidades más pujantes y con proyección internacional, en el presente sustanciada en la red EUNICE formada con otras seis universidades europeas. Mexico Since 1980
This book addresses two questions that are crucial to understanding Mexico's current economic and political challenges. Why did the opening up of the economy to foreign trade and investment not result in sustained economic growth? Why has electoral democracy not produced rule of law? The answer to those questions lies in the ways in which Mexico's long history with authoritarian government shaped its judicial, taxation, and property rights institutions. These institutions, the authors argue, cannot be reformed with the stroke of a pen. Moreover, they represent powerful constraints on the ability of the Mexican government to fund welfare-enhancing reforms, on the ability of firms and households to write contracts, and on the ability of citizens to enforce their basic rights.
