Pusat Kajian Selat Melaka MIMA: Tahun 2022 Penuh dengan Program Kerjasama Serantau dan Antarabangsa Pusat Kajian Selat Melaka (SOM), Institut Maritim Malaysia (MIMA) ditubuhkan secara rasmi pada 21 Oktober 2008. Menjelang 15 tahun penubuhannya, SOM pada tahun 2022 mara bergerak bersama-sama pihak berkepentingan di dalam negara, serantau, dan antarabangsa dalam melaksanakan penyelidikan pelbagai isu maritim terutamanya berkaitan dengan pencemaran marin, pengurusan maritim pintar dalam penyelenggaraan keselamatan pelayaran, dan perlindungan alam sekitar di Selat Melaka.

Kesan Perjanjian Inggeris-Belanda 1824 Menjelang 200 Tahun Kepada Perdagangan Maritim di Sekitar Selat Melaka dan Wilayah Berhampiran. Semasa British melakukan penjajahan di Tanah Melayu, beberapa perjanjian berjaya dimeterai yang memberikan manfaat besar kepada Syarikat Hindia Timur Inggeris (British East India Company [EIC]). Perjanjian Inggeris-Belanda 1824 antara perjanjian yang memberikan impak besar bukan sahaja kepada British, malah ada manfaatnya yang dinikmati sehingga kini oleh Malaysia dan Singapura. Dua tahun lagi (2024) merupakan ulang tahun ke-200 termeterainya perjanjian tersebut antara pihak British dan Belanda. Selepas hampir dua abad perjanjian tersebut, strategi British mendatangkan kemajuan kepada Singapura, Selat Melaka dan juga wilayah-wilayah berhampiran. Walaupun terdapat banyak penyelidikan dan penulisan yang menyatakan penjajahan British bertujuan meluaskan dasar ideologi serta menjamin kepentingan ekonomi British sahaja, realitinya negara terlibat menikmati sendiri kesan daripada penjajahan itu.

MALAYSIA & INDONESIA MEMPUNYAI REKOD BAIK DALAM SEKTOR MARITIM Semasa lawatan kerja rasmi Presiden Republik Indonesia, Joko Widodo, ke Malay-sia pada 7 hingga 8 Jun 2023, sebanyak enam instrumen kerjasama dan persefahaman berjaya dimeterai, iaitu Perjanjian Lintas Sempadan antara Malaysia dan Indonesia, Perjanjian Berkaitan Persempadanan Laut Wilayah Kedua-dua Negara di Bahagian Paling Selatan Selat Melaka, Persempadanan Laut Wilayah Dua Negara di Laut Sulawesi, Perjanjian Perdagangan Sempadan, Kerjasama Promosi Pelaburan, dan Pengiktirafan Bersama Pensijilan Halal Bagi Produk Domestik. Namun terdapat pihak yang sengaja mencetuskan hingar dengan mendakwa bahawa dalam pemeteraian Triti Selat Melaka dan Triti Laut Sulawesi antara Malaysia dengan Indonesia berhubung Persempadanan Laut Wilayah Kedua-dua negara, turut terkandung perjanjian berkenaan minyak dan gas di dua kawasan (Blok ND6 dan Blok ND7) di Laut Sulawesi atau dirujuk Indonesia sebagai Ambalat.
