Budaya tidak bisa dilepas dari pembelajaran. Saat ini, pendidikan sudah masuk pada Revolusi Industri 4.0, namun budaya sebagai sebuah konsep, pemikiran, histori, dan peradaban, tidak bisa dipisahkan dari dunia pendidikan. Budaya terintegrasi baik dalam konteks maupun konten sebuah pembelajaran sesuai dengan amanah dalam Sistem Pendidikan Nasional dan Kurikulum 2013. Dalam buku ini, terdapat enam topik yang diangkat. Topik tersebut adalah sumber-sumber belajar berbasis budaya lokal, integrasi permainan berunsur budaya dalam pembelajaran di sekolah dasar, pendidikan karakter melalui media pembelajaran wayang berbasis budaya lokal, manajemen pembelajaran berbasis budaya lokal Ngada dalam pengembangan karakter anak usia dini, koneksi matematis dalam perspektif budaya lokal Ngada, dan konservasi budaya lokal dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris.
Masalah pandemic virus corona 2019 (Covid-19) yang muncul hampir di seluruh dunia sejak Maret 2020 dan menyerang Indonesia, hingga kini belum juga terselesaikan. Pandemic ini berdampak pada berbagai bidang kehidupan, termasuk di bidang pendidikan, antara lain hambatan dalam menentukan metode pembelajaran yang tepat, hambatan komunikasi antara orang tua dan guru, dan hambatan pemanfaatan teknologi dalam pembelajaran (Agustin et al., 2021). Akibatnya, kebijakan Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia telah diberlakukan pada tahun 2020 Nomor 3 dan Surat Edaran Tahun 2020 Nomor 4. Kebijakan ini disebut kebijakan pembelajaran jarak jauh jaringan (online) atau kebijakan pem-belajaran online. Pembelajaran ini tidak dilakukan secara langsung di kelas, melainkan dengan bantuan perangkat elektronik seperti gadget, laptop, dan smartphone. Hal inilah yang melatarbelakangi masyarakat mengenal istilah “belajar dari rumah” atau “BDR”. Artinya, proses pembelajaran pertama di sekolah untuk pembelajaran di rumah berdampak signifikan terhadap proses pembelajaran.
