Dab (Limanda Limanda) Age Reading Exchange 2019
The goals of the 2019 dab exchange were (1) an estimation of ageing uncertainty for the dab.27.3a4 stock, (2) compare different preparation methods, and (3) examine seasonality in deposition of opaque/translucent material on the edge of the otolith across a latitudinal gradient. The second and third goals were follow-up actions proposed by the Workshop on Age Reading of Dab in 2015 (WKARDAB2). Sixteen age readers from seven countries (Belgium, France, Iceland, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, England) participated in the exchange. Two sets of otoliths were examined. Eco-hydrodynamic Modelling of Primary Production in Coastal Waters and Lakes Using BLOOM
In many areas nutrient loadings to aquatic ecosystems have increased considerably as a result of population growth, industrial development and urbanisation. This has resulted in enhanced growth of phytoplankton, shifts in composition of the plankton community and changes in the structure of ecosystems, which are often considered to be objectionable. To help understanding these processes and to predict future conditions, a mathematical model, BLOOM, has been developed and applied since 1977. It simulates the biomass and composition of phytoplankton and macro algae in relation to the amount of nutrients, the under water light climate and grazing.
The Effects of Noise on Aquatic Life II
The meeting of Aquatic Noise 2013 will introduce participants to the most recent research data, regulatory issues and thinking about effects of man-made noise and will foster critical cross-disciplinary discussion between the participants. Emphasis will be on the cross-fertilization of ideas and findings across species and noise sources. As with its predecessor, The Effects of Noise on Aquatic Life: 3rd International Conference will encourage discussion of the impact of underwater sound, its regulation and mitigation of its effects. Ecologies and Economies in Medieval and Early Modern Europe
The field of premodern environmental history (the study of the complex and ever-changing interrelationship between human beings and the world around them prior to the Industrial Revolution) has grown vigorously over the past two decades, in no small part due to the energy and expertise of Richard C. Hoffmann (York University, Canada). In this collection, historians of medieval and early modern Europe and social scientists with a sensitivity to the use of historical information present their current research in honor of Richard C. Hoffmann's retirement from teaching. The result is a panoramic and dynamic view of the state of the field of premodern environmental history by leading practitioners. The papers are organized under the broad themes of "Premodern People and the Natural World" and "Aquatic Ecosystems and Human Economies". Contributors are Richard W. Wind Energy and Wildlife Impacts

The Second International Conference on the Effects of Noise on Aquatic Life will take place in Ireland August 15-20, 2010. The main emphasis of the conference will be on defining the current state of knowledge. However, we will also assess progress in the three years since the First conference. The Second conference will place strong emphasis on recent research results, the sharing of ideas, discussion of experimental approaches, and analysis of regulatory issues.
