Systemic Service Design provides a comprehensive overview of how systems theories can be integrated into service design to address complex social-economic-technological challenges. Across 14 chapters split into two sections, the book connects theoretical backgrounds and practical worldwide case studies to explore various approaches to systems thinking. The field of service design has evolved significantly in recent years, from focusing on touchpoints and user interactions to being seen as a driver for organizational transformation and increasingly, a key component in transdisciplinary spaces involving complex systems. However, while service design has grown over the past few decades, it has ...
The productization of emerging technologies related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (FIR) is now getting more attention across different industries. Compared to the previous industrial transformations that the world has seen which relied on mechanical innovations, the ongoing FIR is seeing software and data-driven products as the foundation. Apart from that, topics such as circular and sustainable economy as well as climate change are also disrupting the industrial ecosystem. For a viable and successful productization of emerging technologies, collaborations between interdisciplinary stakeholders are a necessity. One of the elements that has been identified to facilitate this collaborati...
"We are customer-centric" is an easy thing to claim, but in practice but in practice, it's not true for all medical device manufacturers. What does it take to be human centered? This handbook is a guide for a product manager's journey towards more human centered medical device product management. It provides tools, examples, and tips, acting as a stepping stone to the world of service design from the perspective of medical device manufacturing. After reading this book: - You will have the basic knowledge to start using the service design approach to invent, innovate, and optimize - You will be able to explore new ways of thinking and working - You will have some practical tools for user involvement and co-creation - You will have a process to lighten your product management tasks
The five-volume set LNCS 12932-12936 constitutes the proceedings of the 18th IFIP TC 13 International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, INTERACT 2021, held in Bari, Italy, in August/September 2021. The total of 105 full papers presented together with 72 short papers and 70 other papers in these books was carefully reviewed and selected from 680 submissions. The contributions are organized in topical sections named: Part I: affective computing; assistive technology for cognition and neurodevelopment disorders; assistive technology for mobility and rehabilitation; assistive technology for visually impaired; augmented reality; computer supported cooperative work. Part II: COVID-19 & HCI...
This collection stems from the International Association of Societies of Design Research (IASDR) congress in 2021, promoting the research of design in its many fields of application. Today's design finds itself at a critical moment where the conventional ‘modes’ of doing, thinking and application are increasingly challenged by the troubled ideology of globalisation, climate change, migration patterns and the rapid restructuring of locally driven manufacturing sectors. The volume presents a selection of papers on state-of-the-art design research work. As rapid technological development has been pushing and breaking new ground in society, the broad field of design is facing many unpreceden...
Corporate businesses are expanding nationally and globally. Given this proliferation, this edited book investigates and finds the inseparable nexus between businesses, human rights, and sustainable development. It comprehensively accommodates chapters on separate but interrelated aspects of this interface, providing collective cutting-edge information and critical analyses by outstanding scholars. Their intellectual contributions are invaluable to understand the role of business in protecting, preserving, and improving the human capital and natural resources for the future and fill up a void in the existing literature. The book will be a handy and useful resource book for corporate policymakers, government officials, legislators, academics, researchers, libraries, lawyers, judges, human rights specialists/activists, and anyone interested in the interaction between business, human rights, and sustainable development.
This open access book provides a comprehensive overview and in-depth coverage of contemporary aspects of leadership in the field of education in Finland. It brings together Finnish scholars to critically explore and discuss leadership in education in the context of the Finnish education system and in relation to international discourses around the topic. It discusses the phenomenon of leadership in educational contexts through several novel empirical and theoretical research designs. It includes themes such as distributed leadership and collaborative governance, changing aspects in the leadership profession, and contradictions in everyday organizational practices and realities. The work also combines conceptual discussions in educational and pedagogical leadership to analyze and to clarify the theoretical and conceptual multidimensionality and ambiguities.
This edited volume uses an interdisciplinary approach to art and design that not only reframes but also repositions agendas and actions to address fragmented global systems. Contributors explore the pluriverse of art and design through epistemological and methodological considerations. What kinds of sustainable ways are there for knowledge transfer, supporting plural agendas, finding novel ways for unsettling conversations, unlearning and learning and challenging power structures with marginalised groups and contexts through art and design? The main themes of the book are art and design methods, epistemologies and practices that provide critical, interdisciplinary, pluriversal and decolonial considerations. The book challenges the domination of the white logic of art and design and shifts away from the Anglo-European one-world system towards the pluriverse. The book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, visual studies, arts-based research, and design studies. The pervasive influence of technology continuously shapes our daily lives. From smartphones to smart homes, technology is revolutionizing the way we live, work and interact with each other. Human-computer interaction (HCI) is a multidisciplinary research field focusing on the study of people interacting with information technology and plays a critical role in the development of computing systems that work well for the people using them, ensuring the seamless integration of interactive systems into our technologically driven lifestyles. The book series contains six volumes providing extensive coverage of the field, wherein each one addresses different theoretical and practical aspects of the ...
This book introduces critical mapping as a problematizing, reflective approach for analyzing systemic societal problems like food, scoping out existing solutions, and finding opportunities for sustainable design intervention. This book puts forth a framework entitled "wicked solutions" that can be applied to determine issues that designers should address to make real differences in the world and yield sustainable change. The book assesses the current role of design in attaining food security in a sustainable, equitable, and just manner. Accomplishing this goal is not simple; if it was, it would not be called a wicked problem. But this book shows how a particular repertoire of design tools ca...
