Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has made it more difficult to maintain high quality in medical education. As online formats are often considered unsuitable, interactive workshops and seminars have particularly often been postponed or cancelled. To meet the challenge, we converted an existing interactive undergraduate elective on safety culture into an online event. In this article, we describe the conceptualization and evaluation of the elective. Methods: The learning objectives of the safety culture elective remained unchanged, but the teaching methods were thoroughly revised and adapted to suit an online setting. The online elective was offered as a synchronous two-day course in winter s...

From Teams to Knots

Teams are commonly celebrated as efficient and humane ways of organizing work and learning. By means of a series of in-depth case studies of teams in the United States and Finland over a time span of more than 10 years, this book shows that teams are not a universal and ahistorical form of collaboration. Teams are best understood in their specific activity contexts and embedded in historical development of work. Today, static teams are increasingly replaced by forms of fluid knotworking around runaway objects that require and generate new forms of expansive learning and distributed agency. This book develops a set of conceptual tools for analysis and design of transformations in collaborative work and learning.

The book is a provocative and challenging approach to the study of organizations by one of the UK's leading organization theorists, who uses various ideas and metaphors from economics, architecture, and design to move beyond the two-dimensionality of much organizational thinking to present more complex 3-D models.

Max Boisot was one of the most original thinkers in management and organization studies. An independent scholar with an independent, enquiring, and innovative mind, his work ranged over a number of different areas from early attempts to understand contemporary developments in China to the role of information in organizations, and later the management of Big Science. Yet, as this book shows, there was a central strand that ran through these apparently diverse areas, which was the attempt to understand the relationship between knowledge and information, and its organization — in firms, organizations, and societies — by means of the model Boisot developed, the 'I-Space'. Knowledge, Organiza...

In the Basque region of Spain, food and eating are the center of everyday life and the focus of endless conversation. This award-winning, internationally acclaimed cookbook presents 130 recipes for casual, elegant fare from this food-centric region's increasingly popular cuisine. With an emphasis on high-quality fresh ingredients, simply prepared, the Basque style of cooking fits right in with today's back-to-basics focus on whole foods. For starters, there are plates full of pinchos, the Basque version of tapas, including Eggs Stuffed with Anchovies and Tuna, and Smoked Salmon and Asparagus Pinchos. Among main courses, there is a wealth of light and healthy fish and shellfish fare including Cod-Stuffed Piquillo Peppers with Biscayne Sauce and Red Snapper Guernica-Style, and rustic and hearty meat and chicken dishes such as Top Loin of Pork Cooked with Milk, Chicken Breasts with Garlic and Parsley, and Venison with Red Currant Sauce.
