This is not a novel. It is a history of an American family. The story begins in Upper Wallop, Hampshire, England, continues to New England in the early 1600's, and finally to the frontier after the Louisiana Purchase, to a region that had once been Spanish West Florida, and which to this day is referred to as the Florida Parishes of Louisiana. Interestingly, in the 300 plus years over which this migration occurred, they only lived in four places: Newbury, Massachusetts, Chester, New Hampshire, Kentwood, Louisiana, and Fluker, Louisiana. The members of the Kent family that eventually settled in Fluker were pioneers, instrumental in founding towns, creating businesses and jobs, and were dominant participants in the development of the social and economic fabric of the local society. These Fluker Kents were a big family, and lived life to the fullest, and deserve to be remembered. This book exists so that their descendants might know who these people were, and how they lived.

FORENSICS III

In Forensics III: They Got Fifteen Minutes of Fame from the Way They Died, I reviewed twenty-eight ordinary people who were thrust into the spotlight, gaining fame not for their talents or accomplishments while living, but for the way they died. In some cases, it lasted much longer. While these individuals may have been “ordinary” before they died, they became extraordinary after death. Some of the people I reviewed in Forensics III: They Got Fifteen Minutes of Fame from the Wa...

We want to say or do something that helps our grieving friend. But what? When someone we know is grieving, we want to help. But sometimes we stay away or stay silent, afraid that we will do or say the wrong thing, that we will hurt instead of help. In this straightforward and practical book, Nancy Guthrie provides us with the insight we need to confidently interact with grieving people. Drawing upon the input of hundreds of grieving people, as well as her own experience of grief, Nancy offers specifics on what to say and what not to say, and what to do and what to avoid. Tackling touchy topics like talking about heaven, navigating interactions on social media, and more, this book will equip readers to support those who are grieving with wisdom and love.
